Today we’d like to introduce you to Juri Jinnai-Cramer .
Hi Juri, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Emergency Tiara is finally coming back from the fight against stage 4 colon cancer and going to release her next EP “Custom Made”. While we embrace the much anticipated excitement of the release of the new EP “Custom Made”, “YUM” got released just in time to celebrate the deliciousness of the summer ahead as one of single releases off of the EP. The song is playful, edgy and really fun to sing to and dance to!
Emergency Tiara is the New York based artist you need to get to know. Fronted by Juri, she is the lead singer, writer, queen, curator, and ringleader extraordinaire to the Emergency Tiara kingdom.
Juri was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. Classically trained in voice, piano and dance. Juri is driven by the power of music to uplift audiences having developed her love of singing through early performances with the likes of leading performers including: Japanese classical vocalist, Ken Nishikiori, on La Damnation de Faust, conducted by Seiji Ozawa (now musical director of Vienna State Opera).
Juri has worked with artists and industry icons such as En Vogue, Tata Vega, Raheem DeVaughn, Bootsy Collins, Dontae Winslow, and Valerie Simpson.
Emergency Tiara’s past performances include SXSW, Primavera Sound Festival, Pride Festivals
nationwide, London fashion week, NYC fashion week, and a supporting act for Belinda
Carlisle’s UK tour.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say it has been a smooth road but I think there is no such thing. lol That’s being said, I don’t think I had that many struggles – I did have a lot of healthy challenges. Starting from moving to the states without speaking English, to write songs in it, to understand the cultural differences, to figure out what’s true to me at the core in order to adjust myself to new environment without compromising who I am. And on top of it, the stage 4 colon cancer diagnose in August 2022 was truly a spicy topping to all of these things. But now looking back, all these things make me appreciate where I stand today so so much!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an artist, singer/songwriter, performer, vocal arranger, stylist, cat lover, and cancer genetic testing advocate, who is originally from Tokyo, Japan, currently based in NYC, USA. I may be known as an asian girl with pink hair?lol I think I am most proud of not quitting this journey regardless of all the ups and downs. And what sets me apart from others might be my “not-so-stereotypical-artist” approach – I am very on time, anal as one can be, and not so emotional. lol
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
You don’t have to be a pushover to be a kind person!
