Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Craven
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My writing journey began many years ago when I published personal essays. It wasn’t until around 2019 that I wrote my first book, and from there I knew fiction was my jam. My first three novels were self-published, after which I signed with my publisher and am on my second contract extension with them.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There’s nothing quite “smooth” about publishing! The industry is constantly changing in terms of trends, processes, and marketing. When I first started, I knew very little. I had to really dive into the ins and outs to learn about self-publishing. There’s a big learning curve, and I definitely would do a few things differently if I were to go back and start from the beginning again. Once I signed with my publisher, I had to give up a lot of creative control, which has been something I’ve had to adjust to.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I write domestic suspense novels where one decision changes everything. I like to say my books feature “impossible choices” that put the characters in moral and ethical dilemmas. Like most commercial fiction, my stories are fast-paced and always have a twist! I’m super proud to hear from readers who say they stayed up past their bedtimes because they couldn’t put my books down.

My newest book, The Day She Vanished, comes out September 25, 2024!
