Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Heath.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Through various mediums, I tell the story of the double bass and those who play it.
I’ve been a musician since I was a little kid. I became obsessed with the double bass and spent all my time i middle school and high school playing performances. I ended up going to music school at Northwestern and have spent the last several decades exploring music in various capacities.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think the biggest struggle I’ve had is getting caught up in the day-to-day frustrations, admin, and such. I have a tendency to take on too much and find myself so busy that I forget to slow down and appreciate how cool it is to do something creative for a living.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve done over 1000 interviews with musicians from all walks of life. Most of my guests have double bass as a part of their life. These conversations have been an unexpected educational and personal development project. I learn a ton and come away inspired and energized from these chats.
Any big plans?
No big changes for me. I’m just trying to have a good balance between work and play, and enjoy our life here in San Francisco.
