Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Gozinsky
Hi Jared, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Coming from a musical family, drumming was always at the forefront of my childhood. As I grew older, drumming started to become than just a casual hobby. I was always encouraged to explore music as a profession as I entered high school and later after college, but medicine was always the goal. That is, until Couch came to be and I saw this as a thriving professional opportunity, and I haven’t looked back since.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing in life comes easily, especially in the music industry. It requires a lot of hard work, dedication, but most importantly sacrifice.
Time has been one of the most significant sacrifices. As a young band, we’ve had to invest countless hours into rehearsing, writing, and performing. This often meant late nights, long weekends, and missing out on social events with friends and family. Balancing personal commitments, school, and jobs while dedicating myself to the band has been incredibly challenging.
Financial sacrifices are another major hurdle. Making it in the music industry often requires significant upfront investment, from recording and producing music to funding tours and day-to-day operations. Without substantial backing, we’ve had to be creative and resourceful.
There have also been emotional and mental sacrifices. The uncertainty of the music industry can be stressful and taxing on anyone’s mental health. Staying motivated and supporting each other through tough times has been crucial.
Moreover, the constant travel and irregular schedules can strain personal relationships. Being on the road means time away from loved ones, which can be difficult for both me and the people I care about. It requires understanding and support from those around me to manage these challenges.
Despite these sacrifices, my passion for music and my belief in what we’re creating keep me going. Each struggle and sacrifice has made me stronger and more determined. The sense of accomplishment I feel when we connect with our audience, the joy of creating music I love, and the bond I’ve built with my bandmates make every sacrifice worthwhile.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Those who know me, likely know me from my band, Couch. We’re a 7-piece pop-band based out of Boston, MA who use our unique instrumentation to create engaging music for musicians and non-musicians alike. In Couch, I make sure to create a sturdy foundation for the songs to groove, and tasteful drum fills to keep listeners engaged and on their toes. Whether on stage or in the studio, I try my best to lock in the listener using my rhythm and musical expression.
When I think about what I’m most proud of with Couch, it’s the incredible journey we’ve undertaken together and the music we’ve created that stands out the most. Each member of the band brings their unique talent and perspective, and together we’ve managed to create a sound that truly represents who we are.
I am beyond proud of our ability to connect with our audience. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of performing live and seeing our music resonate with people. Knowing that our songs can evoke emotions, bring joy, and even provide comfort to listeners is incredibly rewarding. It’s moments like these that remind me why we put in all the hard work and sacrifices.
Finally, I’m proud of the growth we’ve experienced, both individually and as a band. We’ve honed our skills, developed our sound, and continually pushed ourselves to innovate and improve. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but every step has been worth it. Seeing how far we’ve come and knowing that we have so much more to achieve fills me with immense pride.
Couch is more than just a band to me; it’s a testament to what can be achieved when dedicated, passionate people come together with a shared dream. I’m incredibly proud to be a part of it and excited for what the future holds.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
For me, risk-taking has been a defining aspect of my journey, particularly after college when I faced a pivotal decision. Instead of opting for the safe route of returning home to my family, I made the bold choice to move to Boston with the specific intention of pursuing my passion for music with my band.
Leaving behind the familiar comforts of home was undoubtedly a significant risk. It meant stepping into the unknown, far away from the support network of family and friends. There were moments of doubt and uncertainty, questioning whether I was making the right decision. However, deep down, I knew that following my heart and chasing my dreams with Couch was worth the potential challenges and sacrifices.
Moving to Boston to pursue Couch opened up a world of opportunities, but it also came with its own set of challenges. There were times when it felt like an uphill battle, but every obstacle became a learning experience for me and has shaped me into the individual and musician I am today.
Looking back, I realize that taking that leap of faith was one of the best decisions I ever made. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, forced me to grow both personally and professionally, and ultimately led me to where I am now – pursuing my passion with Couch, surrounded by bandmates I wouldn’t do this without.
While I may not have considered myself a risk-taker at the time, I’ve come to embrace the idea that taking calculated risks is essential for growth and fulfillment. It’s about trusting in oneself, seizing opportunities, and embracing the journey, even when the path ahead seems uncertain. My decision to move to Boston with Couch was just the beginning of my risk-taking journey, and I’m grateful for every challenge and triumph along the way.
