Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Real
Hi Jacqueline, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey is a long one! I always say that I regret nothing, because I wouldn’t be where I am today. I have grown from many struggles. Struggling with an eating disorder, depression, and anxiety gave me the strength to push through any obstacle. And I wouldn’t be writing the music I am today if I didn’t have those stories to tell. Because I went through those parts of my life I was helped by so many people to get through each moment, so my music has become a way to give back. My music is a way to continue to grow as a better human so I can be at service to others. AS my dad always says, who also plays in my band, “you have to do one good deed a day” and my ability to write and create helps me help others. I was instilled with drive and motivation from my mother and I know because of their and my sisters support I have overcome so much and have so much yet to achieve. What my story has validated for me is that life is truly made up of moments and each moment is a lesson to learn from and the success I am seeing from my music has shown me that there is no moment that cannot be turned into creative magic.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
AS I had said the struggles have not been easy. And there have been so many moments when I thought I couldn’t get through. If it wasn’t for the people around me then I would not be the person I am today. This is what I love about music creation, it is collaborative, it is the bringing about of creative energies to make magic and that is my favorite part. Like I stated in the last question, every moment is a lesson and now that I have come so far from those dark times I can truly see how each struggle was a way to learn something new about myself. Finally, as my partner says all the time, “I am sure you’ll write a song about it!” and the truth is I can! And that is a blessing I do not underestimate any more. Because if I didn’t push through depression, I wouldn’t have written FALLING, our song that is currently on the radio.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I specialize in is songwriting and recording. Being a recording artist has shown me where my powers lie. And as an artist finding what gives you peace and what allows you to help others is truly powerful. I feel so lucky to be working with writers like David Ray Stevens and Thornton Cline and others and if i hadn’t pushed through a lot of hard times then I would not be in the rooms that I am in today. I am an old soul and classic rock is my basis. I feel honored to be a part of the women who rock like Joan Jett, an idol of mine, and her journey reminds me to continue to defy stereotypes and trust my gut. I have a loud rock wail and I have a lot to say and I am just getting started.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Trust yourself. This day and age with social media it is hard to know what are your thoughts and what are others. When it comes to the artist journey I always take the advice of my guitarist Chris Lejuez, “it’s art, it can be whatever you want it to be!” What that always reminds me of is just trust myself and stop comparing myself to others. Just got for it! Don’t second guess or you might miss out on something greater that is on the other side.
