Today we’d like to introduce you to J.c. Fuller
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always enjoyed writing, starting from my early teen years, and, like several people, I put “Write a Book” on my bucket list of things to accomplish before I kicked said bucket. At forty-six, after much encouragement from family and friends, I had the idea for the first book and thought… I’m not getting any younger. I ended up publishing Black Bear Alibi, never imagining more would come of it, and now, I am working on the fifth installment of the series! It has been an absolute joy to experience this journey. Meeting readers and fellow authors, participating in book clubs and social events, along with attending book fairs and other functions… all a wonderful bonus.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The path of an independent author can have several potholes and roadblocks along the way, which is why having a community is so important. The biggest deterrent has been the attitude toward independent publishing vs. traditional publishing. A lot has changed within the last ten years,… If readers give an indie author and their books a chance, I think they will be pleasantly surprised. With the availability of editors, cover designers, and self-marketing tools, there isn’t much difference in quality.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I write a cozy thriller whodunit series, The Rockfish Island Mysteries, based in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and placed on a fictional island. I’ve enjoyed creating a small town with a close-knit community starring a hometown hero, a Park Ranger, and an overly suspicious female Sheriff. The two work together to solve murderous mysteries and, hopefully, provide those who enjoy problem-solving and red herrings a few hours of enjoyment. My hope is when the reader reaches the end of the book, they will find all of the clues have been provided fairly, and will be able to follow the breadcrumbs back to the conclusion… with the series growing more complicated as it goes.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, it is simple: happy readers who want more of my work and a little… or a lot… of money in the bank.
