Today we’d like to introduce you to Harley Hendrixx
Hi Harley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Chicago, IL. After six years of being a special education teacher and pole dance instructor, I decided to retire and chase my calling. During the pandemic, an app called Hapi listener introduced me to the idea of being a space holder for people in need. Along with being certified as an empathetic listener by way of the Atlantic Listening Academy, I have been actively using my platforms to help motivate others in need.. I am committed to shifting the perspective of as many people in this world as possible. While I am open to all people, my target audience is the black woman and queer folks of all kinds. Many black women have forgotten how amazing they are. I find peaceand absolute joy in being able to remind them daily.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Point me to a person who has had a smooth road and we’d both be looking at a liar. This journey of life has absolutely come with struggles along the way. The biggest struggle was the feelings that cam after leaving education. To be honest, I felt like a failure. I have a masters in education and here I am looking to be some sort of influencer or entertainer. I felt lost and like I would end up in a classroom again regretting the time I spent away. Something in me told me my sacrifices were worth it. Plus, if I did end up back in the classroom at least I’ll know what it was like to try. I am happy I gave it a try. My education license expired February 2024 and I have no intention of renewing it. I am betting on myself and seeing a ton of success.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Along with listening professionally, I make handmade crochet clothing and other items such as blankets. Everything I do, I love. I’m sure that doesn’t make me any different than any other artist or entrepreneur. I think what makes me standout from others is the same as all people honestly; I’m just me. A girl doing the thing she loves daily.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was an energetic child. I loved everything about my childhood. My mom made life so beautiful and peaceful. Even on bad days she would help us find a smile. I was the entertainer of the family. I would always be reenacting a movie or a video I saw to get my older siblings smiling and laughing. I was always cutting up the “hand me downs” my siblings gave me to make new outfits so it feels like a full circle moment to be a budding designer. Working with yarn makes it even more special because my mom taught me to crochet and now we are both chasing our dreams as business partners.
