Hi Hannah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.

The journey to Plannerd began when my husband and I got engaged. As we started the wedding planning process, it became evident that a thoughtful and organized approach was essential. We were fortunate to have an experienced planner who guided us at every step; however, the spreadsheets, invoices, emails, and contracts still piled up. As I explored beyond our own planning experience, I repeatedly heard from couples—both with and without planners—one common question: Why is wedding planning so stressful and difficult?

As a student in business school at the time, I wanted to understand why current wedding planning resources often left couples feeling frustrated and overwhelmed by administrative tasks. During this exploration, I noticed parallels between my previous work at the unicorn startup Carta and the wedding industry. Carta, an equity management platform, focuses on coordinating various stakeholders around a shared source of truth. Although the players involved are different, the needs in the wedding space are remarkably similar: there is a strong demand for a central hub that facilitates effective and harmonious collaboration.

After completing graduate school and drawing inspiration from my personal and professional experiences, I eagerly set out to create Plannerd. My team and I take great joy in knowing that Plannerd is helping couples have a more enjoyable wedding planning experience. We are also excited about what 2025 will bring!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?

The founder’s journey has profoundly influenced my personal and professional growth. One of the most interesting aspects has been the development of my listening skills and my ability to understand the challenges our customers face. Each conversation with couples unveils new layers of their needs; what may initially seem like a simple concern often holds deeper implications for their peace of mind and overall wedding experience. This journey has taught me the importance of asking questions and truly engaging with the answers, even when they challenge our initial assumptions. Perhaps most importantly, it has refined my ability to translate customer insights into meaningful solutions while remaining true to our core mission: Wedding Planning, Perfected.

My professors and classmates at the University of Washington’s Technology Management MBA program were also instrumental in developing our early vision and strategy. Their insights and challenges pushed my thinking in ways that continue to influence our direction today.
