Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregory “Hev One” Duval.
Hi Gregory “Hev One”, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started in Boston MA when my dad was a huge influence for me in music. He played the piano.and produced Haitian bands. Although I grew up in a way different genre of music ie Haitian music and by being born in Brooklyn NY I gravitated to hip hop music where everything was different at home vs the American music scene. I took all the knowledge of music and started making beats at 12 yrs old using a double cassette tape machine making long loops… we’re talking circa 1982/83. I entered a few talent shows and beatbox battles. As I got older and hip hop music was changing I started making beats and worked with a lot local rappers in Boston MA. Then as I got older my interest started to change from musician to production and got my first internship with Maurice Starr. Maurice Starr was also a huge influence for me he was the founder of huge boy bands like New Edition and New Kids on the Block. It was a perfect opportunity for me got to learn and work with Grammy winning engineers and producers. After working for Maurice Starr/The House of Hits I came back to NY and got my first internship in NY working at Chung King studios where i worked with The Wu-Ta ng Clan and many other artists. Throughout the years I’ve worked at different professional studios in New York City and got work with a lot of professional artists, producers and engineers. With all the experience and knowledge I have today I’ve opened my open my own studio working with local artists. And look forward to growing my business and working with passionate artists.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I started my business around the COVID era 2021 and it’s been difficult keeping the clientele that I had. But the passion for producing music is still hot🥵
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Over the year of working with different artists, writers and producers I’ve got develop my own style and sound.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Watching my dad play the piano and him taking me to the studio was always something to look too. Actually when my Mom remarried she married a Haitian guitar player and used to teach me different chords on the guitar 🎸
