Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylann Hogan
Hi Dylann , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Dylann and I own the small jewelry business, DEH Jewels. I started my business in January 2021 with my love for fashion and jewelry. I always wanted to express myself with my creativity and spice up my outfit with some fun jewelry, so why not start a jewelry business myself? I also have always admired people who were there own boss and had the full control and capability of growing as much as they desire. My mom has always been very into jewelry and made jewelry herself years back, so she has helped me get to where I am today and I am forever grateful for that.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t say owning a business is the smoothest… like a lot of other things in life, owning a business has its ups and downs. Some days you are so busy you feel like you can’t accomplish it all, and other days it seems so slow. I never want to get to the point where I feel down on myself because that’s when you start to be hard on yourself and it shows. In terms of owning a business, I personally think you get what you put in. I think that having a memorable personality and memorable customer service is what differentiates you from other small businesses.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I sell jewelry online locally owned in New York. I specialize in trendy, chunky, gold jewelry and love customizing jewelry as well. I am proud of where I have started to where I am today. There are many things that sets me apart from other businesses, but I think the most important is being very personable. I remember all of my customers by first and last name and know who my biggest supporters are. That’s why small businesses are important to support – you can change someones life by just a few small $15 orders.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk taking is very important when it comes to owning a business. If you don’t take any risks, you will never learn and you will never grow. I think one risk I took is taking on my business full time. A lot of people questioned me, weirdly enough, and wondered if I was steady enough to take this on full time. I think if I didn’t do this full time and never tried, I would never know. So far it’s been great and I am beyond proud of myself that I allowed myself to get out there and do what I felt like was right in my gut.
