Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Del Aight.
Hi Dr. Del, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey in music began in the most grassroots way possible—hanging out with friends, signing up for talent shows at school, and throwing parties at my mom’s house. Back then, I was just a kid with a love for music and a desire to make good times for people . Those house parties quickly turned into opportunities for DJing, more events followed and before I knew it, I whole party scene movement began—from community gatherings to camp festivals, club events, concerts and new music genres, I was there.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When things fall apart, they fall apart! The road has been anything but smooth, but that’s what makes the journey worthwhile. Starting out, I didn’t have much—just a love for music and a desire to make something happen. There were times I doubted myself, wondering if I was good enough or if I’d ever stand out in such a competitive industry. Balancing school, work, and music was tough, and there were moments I had to prioritise one over the other.
As I transitioned from performing to studying Music Business and managing artists, I faced an entirely new set of challenges. Learning the ins and outs of contracts, negotiations, and promotions felt overwhelming at times, and I made my fair share of mistakes. There were moments of frustration when things didn’t go as planned—shows that fell through, deals that didn’t materialise, or creative projects that stalled.
But each struggle taught me something valuable. They shaped how I approach the industry today—with more patience, persistence, and understanding. The tough times have made the successes even sweeter and taught me to celebrate every win, no matter how small.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work spans multiple creative roles in the music and arts industry. I’m a DJ, spinning tunes, people jamming on the dance floor, that’s my first Love! I’m a Music Producer/Composer, and Event Coordinator for the Mt. Tabor Dance Community and Shady Pines Festival, where we curate experiences that bring people together through music and movement. I do Radio shows on Mondays at Shady Pines Radio, an online station where I get to share music and stories that resonate with me and my growing audience.
Beyond music, I work as a photographer, videographer, and stylist, which allows me to capture and shape visual narratives that complement my work in sound. I love the balance of these creative disciplines—they each inform and inspire the other.
What I’m most proud of is how my journey has connected me with incredible communities. From throwing intimate house parties to organising full-scale events, I’ve had the privilege of working and creating spaces where people feel free to express themselves. Those connections and the moments of pure joy I see on the dance floor or hear in feedback from listeners/audience, are what drive me.
What sets me apart is my versatility and passion for storytelling. Whether I’m spinning tracks, producing music, curating a festival lineup, or styling a shoot, I’m always focused on crafting a memorable experience. I think my ability to blend these skills into a cohesive creative vision is what truly makes my work unique.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success isn’t just about milestones or achievements—it’s about balance and being fulfilled. I believe success starts with taking care of yourself. My mind is my abode, and I take great care of it. When I’m in a good mental space, everything else flows naturally—whether I’m DJ-ing a set, organising an event, or creating something visual.
Success is also about connection. It’s those moments when I see people vibing to a track I’ve played or hear how something I’ve worked on has touched someone’s life. Knowing that my work brings joy, inspiration, or even just a moment of escape to others feels like success to me.
Ultimately, it’s about growth and staying true to myself. If I can keep exploring my creativity, collaborating with amazing people, and making an impact, big or small, then I feel like I’m on the right path.
