Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Sclafani.
Hi Carmen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been drawn to the music and art since I was a young kid. Art came very natural to me, but my ability to write and play music was more of a slow process of time and focusing on learning the craft. I was playing small clubs and coffee houses in New Jersey and New York, and just growing as a musician and writing songs. The whole Wiser Time project started in 2001 and has evolved into my musical “On The Road” and stories from my travels.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life is always paved with smooth and rough roads, and we just need to be mindful of that, control what we can control and just ride it through. The struggles come in all forms. Often it’s in the financial or resource side of things and not being in a position all of the time to do things in the manner in which you’d like. Art is typically feast or famine, and I think that it takes a certain type of focus and commitment to be able to live and sustain that type of life. But if you stay focused and true to your work, and be grateful, that the universe provides what you need it to.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist and musician best known for my work as Wiser Time as a vocalist, guitarist and songwriter. I produce other artists and work as a session musician and writer, and I distribute music through my digital partner, DMM (Digital Music Marketing) wherein I do all sorts of branding and design work. I license music for film and TV through my WTM partners.
One of the things that I bring to the table is that I work in just about every area of the business, which gives me some very unique perspectives and ability to produce.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Interesting question. I don’t know if I really learned anything “new” so-to-speak other than the power of misinformation in our airwaves, but I can say that the Covid period of time definitely reinforced some beliefs and forced most of us to confront some things. In particular, death and that life is short and precious, and that we have a limited time on this earth to create. Don’t take one day for granted.
