Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittani Starr.
Hi Brittani , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story has always been deeply tied to creativity and the desire to explore the unknown. I grew up with a love for nature, magic, and the power of storytelling, and over time, that evolved into something much bigger. I started as a writer, diving into personal development books, but soon I found myself creating The Gnosis of Zarlequan, a fantasy world that reflected my own journey of self-discovery.
The path wasn’t easy—there were challenges, especially balancing creativity with life’s realities. Over time, I began creating films, music, and immersive stories, each project helping me discover more about who I am and what I’m meant to do. When I was diagnosed with health issues, it became even more important to me to share my art and connect with others who may feel disconnected or misunderstood.
Now, I’m working on producing films like Secrets of the Warrior and expanding Zarlequan into an indie streaming platform for indie creators around the world, all while continuing my journey in music. I realized that my role is not only to create but to guide others in finding their own power, their own voices. That’s why I’m so passionate about supporting indie artists and why every project I work on is deeply personal. It’s all about creating connection and helping others realize that their uniqueness is their greatest strength.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve faced some incredibly difficult moments, starting with being sex trafficked and later escaping that life, only to find myself homeless. The trauma from that experience stayed with me, and it was hard to find a place in a world that often chooses to look the other way. I felt repulsed and ignored, which only deepened the isolation. Now, I’m battling serious health issues that have made life even more challenging. But through all of it, I’ve learned to keep pushing forward. Creating and sharing my story, whether through films, music, or my work with Zarlequan, has been a way to reclaim my voice. My experiences have shaped me into who I am today—resilient and determined to use my journey to help others find their own strength.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work encompasses both filmmaking and music, each deeply intertwined with my personal journey. I create indie films, like Secrets of the Warrior, and I’m also working on my album, Journey Through the Sabbats, which reflects my love for blending music with magical storytelling. What sets me apart is the vulnerability and authenticity I bring to everything I do. Having survived trauma and homelessness, my art is a space where I turn darkness into strength. I’m proud of my ability to remain true to myself, to make indie films, music, and build Zarlequan—a platform where others can do the same.
I’m not just creating art; I’m creating a space where people who feel unseen can come together and thrive. My music, especially songs like Samhain Baby, Samhain and This is Normal, draws from my own experiences, offering listeners something real and raw. What sets me apart is my refusal to conform to societal norms—I’m here to create meaningful work and build community around the things that truly matter.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I live by my intuition. While I love research and careful planning, I often take leaps of faith when something feels right, even if it seems risky. One of the biggest risks I ever took was the day I escaped sex trafficking. I had tried before and faced punishment, but that final escape was pure intuition. Another major risk was selling our family home to buy my witch’s cottage in the woods. I felt called to connect with nature and trust that the decision would lead to something transformative. Right now, I’m in the middle of another huge transition, one I haven’t shared with many people yet. It feels like the biggest risk of all, but I believe it will be the best yet.
