Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Meyer
Hi Amy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a creative entrepreneur since childhood and throughout my career and motherhood journey, I have always found a way to shift and make things happen. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. I knew from an early age that I wasn’t meant to stay in one job forever. I live in a tourist area, so my first jobs were in the tourism industry and I loved meeting people from all over. I was always fascinated as to what they did for a living and why they chose our area to vacation. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts and minor in Hospitality & Tourism Management because I loved it so much. From there, I worked in the tourism industry, entertainment/music industry and a marketing firm with multiple clients in various industries including a textile manufacturing company and engineering firm. After my youngest daughter was born, I struggled with postpartum depression and anxiety and realized I was struggling to juggle my children, marriage, job and life in general. I took a leave of absence from the marketing firm and found a health & fitness company where I could work from home and help women who were struggling like I was. I found that I loved helping women find themselves again, by way of mindset shifts, self love, accountability, physical exercise and nutrition. In helping others, I began to heal myself. I knew then that was part of my purpose and embarked on a spiritual journey to deepen my work and skills. After five years with that company, I took a break from the online fitness industry and focused on writing and publishing my book and building up my photography business. I also joined a CrossFit gym and got my L-1 CrossFit Trainer certification. A year later I began my yoga teacher training journey and in the middle of that, separated from my now ex-husband. The same month I completed my yoga certification, was the same month our divorce was final and the pandemic was in full swing. Those were some of the hardest and darkest days of my life, but I am forever grateful for the tools I had because I was able to implement them and overcome those days and challenges. A decade later, I am divorced and raising my two daughters on my own and I continue to work with women who are overwhelmed, looking for community and purpose and overall well being.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A little bit of both. I have always done things my way and been a trailblazer, and always follow my intuition. So with that sometimes brings challenges and luckily I am creative so I find a way through them. I am blessed with incredible children, great friends and family who may not always understand my choices and decisions, but they support me in all the ventures and ideas.
Going through a divorce and pandemic in the same year and transitioning to an only parent was one of the hardest things I have been through, and being an only parent now, who runs businesses and homeschools a tween and teen most definitely has its challenges but I always find the light and the glimmers in the dark. Gratitude and being in the present moment is all we have and that’s what continues to keep me going.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a yoga teacher, workshop facilitator, empowerment coach, author, Reiki energy practitioner and photographer. I am most proud of being a single mom who homeschools and still manages to run multiple ventures. I have been blessed to witness so much growth in my children after all they’ve overcome and I am so thankful our path has led us here. I am known for creating safe spaces for women to learn how to trust themselves more, feel empowered, relaxed and more confident. I am a storyteller by nature and I feel that authenticity and vulnerability creates trust, hope and permission to be human in these spaces, which connects us all and allows growth. By sharing my struggles, how I continue to overcome and move forward encourages others to do the same. In a world that moves so fast, I practice presence and teach others to do the same, focusing on the simple things in life that truly matter. It begins within, it begins with our families, our communities and then the world. I started a Substack and a podcast this year and love sharing there, I am in the process of launching several virtual programs. I believe if we follow our joy, abundance will come. I love creating experiences for anyone who comes into my world, whether it is in studio, online, my books, or in front of my camera.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Oh, the lessons! I have learned several. To always trust myself. To always show up as I am because it gives people the permission to do the same. I have found that in a world of filters and now the rapid development of Ai, people appreciate authenticity and real. I have also learned that everyone is always going to have an opinion, but most times that opinion has nothing to do with me and everything to do with themselves. Not everyone is going to understand why I do what I do and I’m not for everyone. And that’s okay. I love people, understanding what makes them tick, I love to hear their stories and how they overcame them, and what they’re doing to be the best they can be. It’s been a journey and a lesson when those feelings are reciprocated, but I have learned to accept that all we can do is show up fully in our own authenticity, be and do our best and continue to grow and evolve. The right people will show up and some people are only there for a season, so it’s best to bless and release and focus on the ones who are in my corner and vice versa. Last and certainly not least, all that really matters is that I know I’m serving from my heart and soul with good intentions and teaching my children to do the same. All else will fall into place.
