Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Ivy
Hi Allison, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
A few years after graduating from Penn State, I published my debut novel entitled The Dragon and the Double-Edged Sword. It was an epic fantasy about mythical creatures ruling the world when humans become extinct. I’ve learned a lot about self-publishing since then. Now, my second book entitled Inked in Blood and Memory is releasing this December. The years in between releases were extremely influential in that I got to develop my writing even more and expanded my skillset to include editing, grant writing, ghostwriting, cover design, etc.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. The need to pay the bills—as I’m sure many authors can attest to—gets in the way of writing most of the time. I have never been a fast writer, and it’s something I’m working on. There’s so much to learn about self-publishing that it can feel overwhelming at times, but it’s important to note that we’re not alone. There are thousands of others with the same dreams and struggles.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
When I’m not writing, I’m editing for others, learning graphic design, ghostwriting, grant writing, producing podcasts, creating social media campaigns, and even reading and accepting submissions to Altered Reality Magazine. I have my hands in a lot of pots, but I’m most proud of my newest book: Inked in Blood and Memory.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always looking to collaborate with other creatives or those looking for help with writing their memoirs, promoting their business, or editing their books. They can contact me at [email protected] with their project, and I’d be happy to discuss it with them.
If they’d like to preorder Inked in Blood and Memory, it’s available in paperback, hardcover, or e-book here: https://books2read.com/inkedinbloodandmemory
And if they’d like free “swag” with the book like character art, a bookmark, or others, they can upload their receipt here: https://forms.gle/XmawVSrQsZkSjijg9
I’m always grateful for those who request my books at their local library or indie bookstore, too.
