Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Stevens
Hi Alicia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in the fall of 2021 when I was brainstorming hobbies to keep me busy through the upcoming winter in Fairbanks, Alaska.
With two under two, I was also wanting to find something productive that could be a stress reliever and act as my time for myself.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far the road has been pretty smooth! The biggest struggle has been letting go of things that aren’t working that I thought I needed to have/do.
The idea that I needed a website even when sales online were minimal.
The idea that I need to record every single thing that I make.
The idea that every event will be a huge success.
I learned to let my website expire and learn where my product sells- in person.
I learned to only record when I felt like sharing and was excited about it.
I learned to try an event once and if it doesn’t work, just don’t do it again. Lesson learned and move on.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I work with resin and pressed flowers.
It started off as just jewelry but grew into many, many more things.
The purses and claw clips are always a hot topic at events.
I also started teaching classes- making jewelry, hair clips, phone cases, etc.
I think what sets me apart is just my willingness to change and let go of what doesn’t work while also staying true to myself and my brand.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Find your audience. Your friends and family aren’t always going to be your customer-base. Find them and then really listen and pay attention to what they say (or don’t buy). If you arent willing to adapt for your audience, then you’re thinking as an artist but not a business.
In a perfect world, you won’t need to adapt and you’ll find the exact audience for your product. But just be mindful of who you’re reaching and what they want.
