Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa DAmico.
Hi Alexa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The Days Sustainable Apparel originated from Alexa’s primary career path – apparel design. Alexa studied apparel design and production management at the Fashion Institute of Technology and continued on to work corporately in fashion for large scale womenswear brands such as Club Monaco, Marc Jacobs, Jones New York, DVF, Betsey Johnson among others. Though she loves designing full time, Alexa yearned for something more, something that was truly her own and aligned with her passions, morals and values.
The Days brand mission highlights just this along with the beauty of ethical clothing manufacturing here in the USA. Alexa takes pride in partnering with local, East-Coast based factories as she personally sources earth conscious materials for all. She aims to create fashion forward designs utilizing upcycled and post-consumer materials – such as vintage beach towels, building awnings, 70s sleeping bags etc. and plant based fibers – such as hemp, wood pulp and bamboo. The artisans that craft these garments deserve as much shoutout, if not more, as the brand – without their talent, The Days could not exist today. In October of 2022 Alexa and her husband Shaun were able to open the 1st private label sustainable storefront for The Days in the beautiful city of Cape May, New Jersey. She is honored to have a voice and platform to teach consumers in person about the brand, her role as a sustainable fashion design and the store’s core values in an area that is cherished by so many. The Days is pioneering in the sustainable fashion space and plans for future growth of the brand. Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not! Owning your own business on top of working full time has been a very challenging experience for my husband and I. It takes a lot of sacrifice and time management to make the dream run as smoothly as possible.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am most proud of our ability to be unique aesthetically as a sustainable brand and stay true to our morels in ethical manufacturing and design.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was and still am fairly introverted and like express myself via fine arts and music. I prefer to be behind the scenes vs. front and center and let my work speak for itself. I have never followed a crowd, if anything I create my own style which I still do to this day! Individualism is very important to me and being a designer helps fulfill this for me!
