Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Ghelfi
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved creating lots of things.
At the age of 7, my mom taught me to embroider and crochet. And since then, I’ve never stopped learning new things to improve.
I first worked as a photographer in the fashion and cosmetics industry.
And a few years later, I opened my own business in handmade embroidery and crochet creations.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Entrepreneurship is never an easy and smooth road, and even less so in the creative world.
We have our ups and downs. But as long as the passion is there, you can pick yourself up and keep going.
The hardest thing to deal with is the financial stress. I opened my business just before Covid, so it was a very stressful time.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My brand highlights the fact that embroidery is not limited to the tablecloths and cushions we may have seen at our grandparents’ homes.
I embroider fine, precise designs on all kinds of materials.
It can be on t-shirts, bags, socks, denim jackets or even notebooks.
My goal is to highlight this art form, which tends to be seen as old-fashioned. That’s why I give workshops and also sell kits.
I also give crochet workshops and sell my own kits and patterns.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Never give up!
If you want to make a living from your passion, fight for it. Don’t listen to the people around you (even if it’s hard).
Surround yourself with the right people and believe in yourself.
Try to give your brand a professional image right from the start. It’ll make a big difference.
