Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhee Andrews
Hi Rhee, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Communal Sole Club is a sneaker and community sustainability program that bridges the gap between small/local businesses and communities through a series of Sneaker and Wellness programming. What once started as a giveback brunch has transitioned to an invite only club that welcomes community through sole (soul) enriching experiences.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing worth it comes with resistance, just redirection. I believe I have found challenges – but not the ones that will take you out of the game just the ones that might bench you for a bit. That moment of pause has been needed in my journey to ensure my direction becomes more tunneled and tuned in. I’m grateful for all obstacles and redirection.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As an educator and Coach for many young adults, there are times where I struggle with balancing the two. I am a creative in my off hours and just Rhee when I can disconnect from the things I am currently doing at all times. Through the club, I’ve created space for genuine conversations, connections and community building. From my passion of movement, music, and sneakers – there isn’t a space that CSC doesn’t touch upon. If you speak with any of my friends, they could each tell you a different thing about me – whether that be my interest in movies, arts and books or some might tell you about my drive to bridge people together in a natural way. Through the club, I’ve been able to create spaces that show case these sides with intention and opportunity to create at my own capacity within help of my surrounding team. Whether you’re an introverted soul with a passion for community but don’t know how to integrate or an outgoing old sole (soul) with an ear for music we can adjust to all with our wellness walks, intimate listening sessions, volunteer programs, and community dinners. We have a space at the club for every level of interaction.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
They don’t care, but your community does. CSC was a passion project after months of being constrained to my apartment, I noticed the call upon community from the lack of interaction. A lot of us were uncertain of the stillness but still found ways to become creative in the connection. From that, I learned the companies aren’t the community that we need – work friends are by proximity not by choice – we all need that 3rd space to learn, create, and over all live. With that, Communal Sole Club became a heavy focus on a “What will I do once I get out? What will community look like? How can we keep these moments going?”
