Today we’d like to introduce you to Reynna Romo
Hi Reynna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Desert Rey’s Apothecary started with an impulsive candle making project. My first batch was shared online for fun and a demand was born which hasn’t lost its momentum. I have been an herbalist for several years and always had an affinity for using home made products free of toxins. My love for plants and having home remedies from my Native American lineages create the herbal products I use at home and extend to everyone. I got to where I am now with my small business by putting myself out there with vending opportunities and talking with people about what I do. Now I find myself being sought out for events and personal care advice. Ongoing support from my community and loved ones guide me. Desert Rey’s is constantly evolving and hardly feels like my idea.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a road of many textures. Most struggles I can say I’ve had have been learning curves or creative blocks that happen naturally. From trying to find the perfect wicks to designing my own product labels, any “struggle” is a challenge for me to grow. Finding my voice to advocate for people and plants has been one of the more challenging parts of the process. Conversations can get uncomfortable or “unorthodox” for the Western world, but they need to be had for some real positive change in our society and ecosystem.
As you know, we’re big fans of Desert Rey’s Apothecary. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We offer products from a cultural and holistic perspective. This is a platform to learn, teach, and make a clear stand of Ancient Lifestyles lost in new age adaptations. A portion of all proceeds go toward Indigenous movements and homeless/drug treatment causes. Herbs used are grown personally, mindfully foraged in natural surroundings, or gathered from small gardens. Every product is made with non toxic and organic materials. Our efforts are made to pull away from mass production which hurt plant species and the environment alike. Knowing where things come from allow us to have higher quality products and a more aligned relationship with Nature.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m an open book to those around me. Someone who doesn’t know me well may not know I’m recovered from substance use disorder and homelessness in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. It’s something I like sharing with others to spread hope and break down the stigmas and silos attached to people like me.
