Today we’d like to introduce you to Phil Ross
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a child, I was skinny and relatively small. However, I was very “scrappy” and had a driving desire to be strong, fit and a good fighter. This led me to activities such as boxing, wrestling, weight lifting, running, football and eventually martial arts. As an adult, I worked in the corporate world, yet trained and operated a small school. After losing my job after the collapse of the Twin Towers on 9-11 (I had an office on the 25th floor of Tower 2), I decided to follow my passion and pursue my fitness and gym business full time. I went back to school and obtained my Masters Degree in Health and Sports Sciences and was selected as the speaker to the commencement. Below is a short Bio Blub:
Phil Ross M.S., CPT
Master Phil: A lifelong Martial Artist holding Black Belts in 4 Systems of Combat Arts, Bando, Lethwei, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Taekwondo. He is Master RKC (Kettlebell Instructor), Certified Bodyweight Specialist and ACE Certified Trainer and has his Master’s Degree in Sports and Heath Sciences and conducts classes as College Professor. He was also a champion bodybuilder and elite level powerlifter and is also known as “The Kettlebell King”.
As a competitor he was successful on the state and national levels in Karate, Kickboxing, Taekwondo, Wrestling, Power Lifting, Bodybuilding and Submission Fighting. He also used these skills providing security as a bodyguard and bouncer and now is part of the SAS Training Group instructing civilians and Law Enforcement Officers in defensive tactics.
Author, producer, choreographer and actor, his products are numerous. SURVIVAL STRONG and Ferocious Fitness and is the creator of S.A.V.E., the #1 Rated Self Defense and Fitness Video series (2007). His video series, The Kettlebell Workout Library, a 20-hour video set consisting of 104 Kettlebell and Bodyweight based workouts. He featured on several virtual training platforms and has been featured on several commercials, TV shows and has film credits.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, not at all. Injuries, divorce, 9-11, COVID and getting rejected for tenure a the community college have posed many challenges. I will elaborate on the aforementioned during our interview.

Master Phil Ross – is an internationally recognized mixed martial arts instructor, trainer and wrestling coach with over 50 years of experience in Martial Arts of various disciplines: American Lethwei (Bando), Catch Wrestling, Combat & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Taekwondo and Filipino Arnis. The combination of these arts and his experience as a bouncer and bodyguard lend American Eagle MMA as an extremely effective Defensive Tactics Methodology.
His strength and conditioning training includes, but is not limited to Kettlebells, Bodyweight, Dynamic Tension, Powerlifting, Bodybuilding and Olympic Style Weightlifting. Strength, explosive power, flexibility, mobility and muscular endurance are all achieved with the BodyBell Method.
We offer one on one and small group training in person and virtually. We have in-person and online certifications in Kettlebells, Bodyweight and Self Defense.
