Hi MeiMei, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I coauthored a book with a doctor friend when I was just 25 years old and wondering what to do with my life. That book ended up selling to a major NY publishing house, and unexpectedly launching my career as a ghostwriter and freelance editor. In the 25 years since, I’ve helped to birth over a dozen books, penned over 1,000 articles for publications including FORBES, The New York Times, The Huffington Post, Stanford magazine and more. Just last year, I launched a company, Your Bestselling Book. We offer assistance from conception to completion and promotion of nonfiction books and memoirs, including ghostwriting, book coaching, and an exclusive online course done with an intimate cohort of high achieving authors.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At the very start, the struggle was making money. I had to work my way up the ladder, slowly and steadily. I gradually earned more, and also gained more prestigious writing gigs, coauthored 2 New York Times bestsellers and became a paid contributor to Forbes. Launching my own business has proven to be a whole new situation. I love helping people tell their stories to inspire others and make the world a better place. But the sales and marketing aspect of the business does not appeal to me. I find it exhausting. I still very much need to build my funnel to attract more clients. So, I recently hired a sales person to help me out!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Your Bestselling Book?
Drawing on my 25 years of publishing industry experience as a ghostwriter, coauthor and freelance editor of over one dozen nonfiction books or memoirs, including 2 NY Times bestsellers and 2 selections for Oprah’s book list, I lead a business that helps take people from conception to completion and promotion of their books.
What sets us apart is my own experience as a bestselling author AND as a coach. I cultivate an atmosphere of cheerleading, with a genuine desire to uplift our authors and their audience. My business offers not only ghostwriting and book coaching services, but also an exclusive 6-week online course in cohort with just 10 other high-achieving authors. It’s a beautiful community that supports one another in reaching our goals of becoming bestselling authors and making a positive impact on the world.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I live in Honolulu, Hawaii. What I love about it is the physical beauty, of course. We are surrounded by pristine ocean and mountains, where we can swim, surf, hike and be outdoors year round. And we always enjoy clean air and water, and a fresh breeze — it is never very hot nor is it ever cold. The people are friendly. Best of all, I appreciate the diversity of the islands. From Native Hawaiians to Asian and European cultures, it’s a truly spectacular mix of people.
My only dislike is that it is five hours of plane travel to any other place on Earth! That means a lot of time on airplanes. But you get used to it. A 5-hour flight is simply no big deal.
