Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcia Armstrong.
Hi Marcia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a former banker with a decade of operational experience, and like many people, my life took an unexpected turn during the height of the pandemic—I lost my job. I was faced with a decision: take another role within the system I knew, or take a bet on myself.
Entrepreneurship wasn’t something I had ever envisioned—not in a million years. But deep down, I felt a clear calling from God to step out in faith and create something of my own. So, I took that leap and launched my business, A Purpose Life, inspired by my own personal finance breakthrough.
That breakthrough wasn’t just about money—it was about transformation. It gave me the tools to take control of my finances, find purpose in my work, and help others do the same. Now, as I approach January 2025, I’m celebrating five years in business—a milestone that I never take for granted.
In those five years, I’ve graced stages, won awards, and, most importantly, helped thousands of people transform how they make, manage, and multiply their income. My approach combines strategic, biblical-based solutions with real-world financial tools, allowing people to break free from financial overwhelm and step boldly into their purpose.
This journey has been a testament to faith, resilience, and the power of trusting the process—even when the path feels uncertain. I’m proof that when you take a leap of faith and align your work with your purpose, incredible things can happen.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. It requires you to constantly remind yourself of your why and stay grounded in your purpose, especially when the road gets rocky—and it will.
In the early days of my business, my first year was all about learning how to actually do business. Transitioning from working behind the scenes to becoming visible was a huge shift for me. I had to learn about sales, marketing, and lead generation, and honestly, it was overwhelming at times.
One of my biggest struggles was falling into the trap of thinking that every solution in the online space was the answer to my problems. I spent money on things that didn’t deliver a return or, worse, turned out to be “smoke and mirrors.” It was like chasing shiny objects that distracted me from what truly mattered. I learned the hard way that focus is everything—if you’re not careful, you can mismanage your resources and waste valuable time.
Another lesson I had to learn was when to speak and when to stay silent. In my excitement, I would share ideas or opportunities before they were solidified. And when things didn’t pan out, I had no one to blame but myself. Now, I know the value of letting my work speak for itself when the time is right.
I also made the mistake of trying to do too many things. There’s a huge difference between being busy and being productive. As an entrepreneur, you need to work on your business, not just in it. I had to get clear about the tasks that truly moved the needle and stop trying to wear all the hats at once.
One of my game changers was understanding the importance of hiring the right people. This meant putting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in place so I could clearly define roles before filling them.
And one final piece of wisdom I live by: pay yourself a salary—even if it’s small at first. It’s not about the amount; it’s about cultivating the habit and respecting the value you bring to your business.
The road has not been smooth, but every challenge taught me a lesson that made me stronger, wiser, and better equipped to serve my clients and grow my business.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
