Today we’d like to introduce you to Laniece Listens

Laniece , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?

I grew up as one of nine children, which taught me the importance of finding my own voice early on. At 19, I joined the Air Force to gain discipline and spent eight years in the military. During this time, I met my amazing husband, Darnell. We have been married for 12 years and have five beautiful children, including our twins who are always in our hearts.

My journey took a significant turn on August 2, 2014, my wedding anniversary, when I experienced pre-term labor and lost our twins. This heartbreaking event propelled me into a deep journey of self-discovery. I later completed my Masters in Social Work and became passionate about self-love. This passion led me to become a Self Love Coach, teaching the foundations of Self Love, Self Respect, Self Awareness, and Self Confidence. Today, I coach women globally and hold leadership training for top-performing companies.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?

It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Losing our twins in 2014 was one of the darkest days of my life. That heartbreaking moment brought me to the work I do now, but it wasn’t without its share of doubt and questioning my purpose. I often found myself wondering what I was doing trying to build a business and who would support me, especially with all the voices in my head trying to keep me small or, better yet, safe.

I tried, y’all, and it felt like I was fighting for my life. There were many days when I wanted to quit, but something in me just wouldn’t let me. Balancing marriage, military life, motherhood, and my personal aspirations was incredibly demanding and overwhelming. The journey was also filled with countless “no’s” before I finally received my “yes’s.” I faced numerous risks and losses, each one a lesson that helped me grow stronger and more resilient.

Without faith and the unwavering support of my husband, Darnell, and my family, I don’t know if I would be where I am today. Their belief in me, combined with my inner drive, helped me navigate through the tough times. Despite the struggles, I always found myself surrounded by people who saw my potential and believed in me. These experiences, although challenging, have shaped me into the Self Love Coach I am now, dedicated to teaching and inspiring women all over the world.

Don’t be afraid to make the investment: Just like planting a seed in your garden, investing in finding a mentor or attending networking events can yield beautiful results. Recognize the worth of mentorship and networking in your journey, and be ready to invest your time, energy, and sometimes a bit of money into nurturing those connections.

Don’t be afraid to attend conferences and events: Think of these gatherings as your playground, where you get to meet new friends and play with exciting ideas. Embrace the opportunity to share your story, learn from others, and build relationships. Be bold in introducing yourself and sharing your passions – you never know who you might connect with!

Don’t be afraid to ask for help: Remember, asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Think of it as raising your hand in class when you need clarification. Reach out to potential mentors or professionals in your field with genuine curiosity and a willingness to learn. Most people are more than happy to lend a hand to someone who’s eager to grow.

Keep showing up: Like a favorite coffee shop, consistency is key in building relationships. Keep showing up to events, engaging with your network online, and following up with new contacts. Building meaningful connections takes time and effort, so don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t happen overnight. Keep watering those seeds, and soon enough, you’ll see them blossom.

Ultimately, don’t let fear hold you back from seeking mentorship or expanding your network. Embrace the adventure, be authentic in your interactions, and remember that every connection you make adds a new color to the canvas of your life’s journey.
