Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberley Zagyva
Kimberley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was thrown into entrepreneurship rather unexpectedly. In December 2019, just a week before Christmas, my husband was made redundant. At the time, we had two toddlers and an 8-week-old baby, and I was a stay-at-home mum—he was our main earner. He struggled to find new work, and then COVID hit, which left us living on the breadline. In a panic, I pulled out my old 10-year-old laptop and started searching for any way to make money online. That’s when I discovered Upwork. I took on as many small projects as I could, which eventually landed me two big clients. From there, things started to grow. Fast-forward four years, and now I have a successful business as an executive virtual assistant and web designer.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely had its ups and downs. In the beginning, working online felt a bit isolating. I didn’t have a community or support from like-minded people, which made things challenging. But that’s changed over time—I’ve met some incredible people along the way who’ve become both friends and a source of support.
I don’t like to call them “mistakes,” but I’ve certainly faced hurdles that taught me valuable lessons. One of the biggest challenges was being the “yes-woman.” I said yes to everything and didn’t set clear work-life boundaries. That nearly led to burnout, which really put things into perspective. Since then, I’ve become much better at setting and sticking to boundaries, which has benefited not just my business, but also my home life and my clients.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Joi Virtual LTD (trading as Kimberley Zagyva)?
My business is centered around being an Executive Virtual Assistant, primarily supporting established businesses—especially female coaches—with a range of services. I specialize in admin support, client management, and streamlining systems and processes, along with web design. I work with platforms like Kajabi, ConvertKit, Mailchimp, and Showit to help my clients optimize their operations and grow their businesses.
What sets me apart isn’t just the services I offer, but the strong focus I place on fostering a supportive community of female entrepreneurs. My journey from uncertainty to building a successful business has taught me the immense value of collaboration and empowerment among women in business. I believe deeply in championing other women’s success and creating a more inclusive, uplifting business community.
One of the things I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is that I’ve built a business that not only supports my family but has allowed my husband to pursue his dream career without the pressure of taking on a job solely for financial reasons. I’m proud of myself for starting from scratch, with no formal help or training, teaching myself everything I needed to know until I could invest in myself and build the supportive community I have today.
If there’s one thing I want your readers to know about my brand, it’s that beyond the services I offer, I’m dedicated to helping women succeed on their own terms, just as I’ve done. Whether it’s through virtual assistant services or web design, I’m committed to helping businesses thrive while contributing to a stronger, more empowered community of female entrepreneurs.
