Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Gulotta
Jill, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I think when I think about my story and how it has shaped who I am today and the work that I do, it starts with my transition to college. I went to college at Lafayette University to play Division I field hockey. I was coming from a very successful and happy high school career and couldn’t wait to start this next chapter. What I did not expect was that this would be the chapter of my unraveling. The transition to college was an extremely challenging one and left me struggling mentally and emotionally resulting in engaging in an eating disorder. Because of this I had to leave college and all the dreams of what I thought would be. What followed was years of struggling with food and my body. While I tried to figure out what the next step for me was, I found myself at Fordham University pursuing a degree in finance. I graduated and headed to Wall Street, excited to land my dream career, so I thought. Working on Wall Street, I realized this was not for me and I took the scary leap to go back to get a Masters in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology from Columbia University. This began my path to starting what is now a my nutrition practice, Jill Gulotta Nutrition, PLLC. While working with my clients I realized quickly that what my clients were struggling with was not about the food. I wanted to help my clients beyond the scope of nutrition which prompted me to go back for a second Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University to become a therapist. Throughout this educational journey, my personal life was struggling. I was going through a divorce with two young kids. It was a struggle to say the least but this was my biggest lesson in when you do internal work your external world can change and be everything that you want it to be. I was in a very low place during this time and thought I was a victim to my circumstances, but once I stopped living in that mindset and turned inward to work on myself, my whole world and life changed. This experience encouraged me to start the life coaching part of my business. Through my own struggles I have learned so much and I want other people to realize that they too can have a happy fulfilled life and they deserve to work on themselves to get that.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My eating disorder and my divorce were my two biggest challenges but they were also the biggest life lessons and the things that inspired me to do the work that I do.
We’ve been impressed with Jill Gulotta LLC and Jill Gulotta Nutrition, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am currently working and very excited about the wellness company that I am creating that is going to be all pieces of my business together, therapy, life coaching and nutrition counseling. All the work I do is really helping women thrive and live their best lives feeling absolutely amazing.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Everything is possible when you work on yours own personal development. You can create and have anything that you want in your life.
