Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Roth.
Hi Jenny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Sure!
I was a young mom to three little kids ages four and under!! As my girls got older, I had more time in my day to focus on other things and I would find myself cleaning or scrolling Facebook and I had this moment where I thought:
Even if I have just one hour to myself a day, I have to find something to do with it that matters.
So, I made a list. This ‘thing’ I did for myself had to …
Help others
Be something I could from home
Involve writing <- one thing I loved and always thought I was kind of good at
I started pitching myself to local magazines as a writer and picked up a few jobs! Eventually, I moved up to managing editor at one of those magazine, writing articles and working mostly from home.
The articles I loved writing most were features we ran on local businesses. I was fascinated by their stories and everything they did for their customers. I loved hearing how the started and how they got to where they were, and the challenges they overcame.
We would print these 'business feature' stories and get such great feedback like: "Thank you so much!! The story you ran on my business helped us get an uptick in traffic." OR "It captured our brand so well!"
My parents have been business owners my entire life, and so the fact that I could HELP business owners by doing something I loved so much (writing) meant everything to me.
I started to get requests from other business owners to write their websites, blogs, etc. and realized this is a thing called COPYWRITING, and I can really use this skill to make a difference for others.
I dove all in to learn about copywriting and become better at it. I started taking on more writing jobs, pitching myself for jobs, and gaining clients.
Within four years, I had built a six-figure copywriting business working from home in very part-time hours for business owners that I genuinely love and care about.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish!
My biggest struggles have been figuring out how to structure my time and pricing to best serve my clients and also not burn myself out entirely.
I really wanted to ‘make it’ – so I took on every job I could and was writing and working around the clock.
I am also the primary caregiver for our three daughters. Even though they are all in school now, my working hours are limited and so my biggest challenges have been figuring out how to grow my business while putting my family first and balancing all those priorities.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Jenny Roth Copywriting ?
I write sales copy – emails, websites, ands sales pages -for female-led group coaching programs who want to stand out and make a massive impact on others.
My copywriting process is rooted in customer voice and market research. I really believe that your ‘stand out factors’ and the words that only your brand can use do not come from my head – they are ‘hidden’ in the words your clients use to describe working with you. I really dig in to know not WHAT you do but how YOU do it. Every business owner is unique and has a unique voice that deserves to come forward.
Being a writer, I really get to know my clients. So I think one of my skills is helping people feel comfortable sharing details with me in interviews, asking the right questions to get the ‘golden threads’ of your story out, and just being a real, approachable person you can talk to.
I am most proud of writing copy that helps women build financial freedom. I believe all women – no matter their background or circumstances – deserve the right to follow their dreams and build their own wealth.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Covid-19 seems like forever ago since I am writing this in almost 2025.
I think the thing I learned most is to put your blinders on and just keep helping your clients. Keep asking yourself what can I do to to help someone today, and go do that thing. Know your clients. Lean into what they need. Don’t be afraid to offer it.
I lost all of my copywriting clients in March 2020 when the pandemic hit. It was devastating but (after a good cry) I just got back out there pitching myself, writing copy, and doing everything I could to help.
