Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Cameron.
Hi Jen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Early in my career—now 26 years ago—I found myself at a crossroads. I was a single mom with two toddlers, one of whom had just been diagnosed with autism. It was a pivotal and terrifying time, filled with both the grief and uncertainty of what lay ahead and the immense responsibility of providing for my children on my own.
More than anything, I wanted to be present for them—to take them to school, pick them up, cheer them on at games, and be there for every milestone. I needed a career that would allow me to build a stable future for them while also giving me the flexibility to be the mother they needed. I found that in real estate.
I took a leap of faith, launched my career, and never looked back. For 26 years, this industry has been the most incredible journey I could have asked for. That said, it hasn’t come without its challenges, nor without relentless hard work. But through it all, real estate has given me not only a career but a life filled with purpose, resilience, and the ability to show my children that anything is possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The first several years of my career were fantastic—until the market crash. Practically overnight, everything changed. For over a year, home sales came to a standstill. People were losing so much, and I knew I had to find a way to keep going, not just for myself, but for those who needed help.
I spent that time learning everything I could about short sales, attending lender classes to understand the process from their perspective. More importantly, I helped countless people—for free—so they wouldn’t lose their homes. It wasn’t about making a commission; it was about doing the right thing during an incredibly difficult time.
Early in my career, a branch manager had given me a piece of advice that would prove invaluable: Live below your means if you want to survive and thrive in real estate. That single lesson saved me from the financial stress that crushed so many during the downturn. But even with that preparation, it was a terrifying time.
When the market finally recovered, I came out of it with an unshakable confidence—no matter how challenging or uncertain a situation may seem, I now knew I had the resilience, knowledge, and work ethic to weather any storm.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Agency Seattle?
Throughout my 26-year career, I have worn many hats—selling real estate, managing offices, leading executive divisions, and building some of the biggest brands in the industry. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the only limits I have are the ones I set for myself.
My greatest joys have always been twofold: helping clients achieve their dreams and creating an incredible support system for brokers looking to grow their careers. During the pandemic, with time to reflect on what I wanted the next phase of my career to look like, I realized a few key things. I loved selling and working directly with clients. I also felt that most real estate brands and leadership were outdated—out of touch with what brokers truly needed to thrive.
So, I took a bold step and franchised the first Agency-branded office in the Pacific Northwest and greater Seattle area. Now, I own a brokerage while continuing to sell full-time. In fact, we are one of the few real estate companies where the CEO is also a full-time, producing agent.
This journey has been nothing short of transformational. I’m surrounded by the best in the industry, constantly learning and evolving. And the culture we’ve built? Unlike anything else. It’s not just a company—it’s a true team, where every person is invested in each other’s success. That’s what makes this career, and this community, so extraordinary.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The COVID crisis taught me countless lessons. It forced me to slow down, reflect, investigate, and explore—and ultimately, to decide what path I truly wanted to take. While it was a time of profound loss, it also revealed the power of pausing, reassessing, and being intentional about the future.
In the fast-paced world we live in, it’s easy to keep moving without ever stopping to evaluate whether we’re on the right path. But the truth is, we should all be living lives that ignite our passion—lives designed by us, for us. Because at the end of the day, why spend your energy building someone else’s dream when you have the power to build your own?
