Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarrod Schulz.
Hi Jarrod, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
~ I still had a full time job as an electrician when I started my business. That only lasted a few months though and I found myself basically unemployed when they let me go soon after. I now know that I need to schedule at least four or five structural inspections a week to be comfortable. During that time, I was lucky to get five a month. I’ve always been a quiet guy that sticks myself for the most part, but I realized I’d need to make some noise to get noticed and hopefully keep food on the table. I decided to always leave the house daily to go market wherever I could when I wasn’t booked. It was pretty much basic survival at that point, so I had choke down all of my inhibitions, fears, and insecurities and start putting myself front and center in the free market, and hope for the best.
~ Things changed dramatically when I discovered how powerful Instagram and Facebook can be if used correctly. It felt so awkward posting stuff about myself every day to a group of strangers but as new clients began connecting with me, the majority of those feelings left and were replaced by a desire to never worry about food or a roof again. That was 2019, and after a few years of consistency and growth, I’m so busy that I barely have time to sleep. It’s to the point where I’ll knock five things off of the to-do list but will have six or seven added from one phone call as I’m sitting there. Absolutely no complaints here though because although it’s nonstop, I set out reaching for the stars and I’m quickly watching my life turn into something I never imagined possible.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
~ Struggles and obstacles come fast and without warning. I didn’t realize a lot of things about my profession when I started. Like how often I have to protect myself, clients, and seemingly everyone in the community from lawsuits, bad decisions, dishonesty, predatory practices, and sheer greed. You and I would both think that I should just be an inspector and go make a report about the property, but in reality, It’s more like being a doctor/lawyer/administrator in the real estate market.
~ A lot of my time and some extra money is dedicated to reducing those obstacles. Those could come in the form of updated tools or software that make the inspection go faster, policy and procedure changes that make things like collecting payment more efficient, reducing loss, client retention, and site etiquette. The most important thing I’ve learned when dealing with issues is to address them quickly and professionally.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
