Today we’d like to introduce you to Eva Melchiorre
Eva, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The Line Method originated from my own personal struggles with pain and movement from a young age. As a dancer, I was always active, but by the age of 17, I inexplicably began experiencing sciatica and debilitating pain. By the time I was 20, I had to leave the dance world because I could barely function or even walk without pain.
Following advice from health professionals to “work out and get stronger,” I immersed herself in the fitness world. I obtained my Personal Training certification from the National Council of Personal Trainers and found great mentors in diverse programs, from yoga to weightlifting. Despite gaining strength and anatomical knowledge, the persistent pain continued throughout my college years.
In 2017, I returned to my hometown of DC, and worked on continuing to expand my movement repertoire despite ongoing physical challenges. I explored Pilates and the Washington fitness scene before deciding to open my own studio in 2019. Frustrated by the prevalent “no-pain-no-gain” mentality, I began laying the groundwork for what would ultimately become The Line Method.
In late 2020, I was finally diagnosed with Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder, a condition affecting joints and connective tissues that can cause pain and fatigue. Determined to help others after learning from my own condition, I became a leading fitness specialist in hypermobility-related movement disorders. Since that time, I have developed and presented training sessions for industry professionals and worked with hypermobile clients internationally.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not. The most prevalent struggle throughout my journey has been the presence of chronic pain. When you work in such a physical industry, it can easily become debilitating if you don’t pace yourself. It took me a long time to learn that in order to show up as my best self for my clients, my peers, and myself – that I would have to prioritize my own self-care and wellness.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Line Method. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The Line Method is my rebellion against the fitness industry. For the last 5+ years, I have worked with people who (similarly to myself) have embraced a no-pain-no-gain mentality throughout their lives, and realized it has gotten them nowhere. I am extremely proud of my brand – The Line Method – because it’s the wellness space I always dreamed I had growing up. I have built a team of instructors who value the same things I do – a sustainable, holistic approach to fitness and wellness. For both clients and instructors alike, I have gotten to help shape and grow their perspectives, and do away with a lot of fallacies regarding what it means to be “fit.”
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I want to tell the world about this new approach to fitness. I want to help individuals that are stuck in a hamster-wheel fitness grind break out of the cycle that’s getting them nowhere. I am currently looking for speaking opportunities and platforms where I can address and educate more people on methods to revamp the way they approach fitness.
