Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Graham
Hi Elizabeth, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Talismania Jewelry may have just celebrated its first year, but its essence has been brewing for far longer. This venture is more than a business—it’s a fusion of my deepest values, woven together like the intricate patterns in our designs.
Imagine a world where timeless elegance meets bold uniqueness, where luxury dances in harmony with sustainability. This is the realm we’ve crafted, inspired by Montana’s raw, untamed beauty—a place where rugged mountains whisper to ethereal skies.
The soul of the brand sparked from transcendent moments of clarity, those flashes of inspiration that arrive in the stillness of meditation and the rhythm of conscious breath. Each piece we create is a talisman, born from this alchemy of mindfulness and artistry.
At Talismania, we’re not just making jewelry. We’re crafting portals to a world where beauty, consciousness, and nature intertwine—inviting our patrons to wear not just an accessory, but a story, a piece of Montana’s soul, and a reminder of their own extraordinary journey.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
By nature of being in a product business that uses premium materials, to have inventory means tying up a decent amount of cash and relying on sell-through to bolster cash flow. As anyone who has started a business knows, it takes a while for sales pipelines to mature and for consistency to develop, so cash flow can be a bit choppy and require capital injection from my personal finances, which becomes stressful.
Regarding quality, being a small player in a saturated, mature market means that it is inherently more challenging to build supply chain and fabrication relationships and receive the level of quality I have committed to as part of my values. There have been times where I have needed to send jewelry back for remediation several times at my own expense to receive the result I was expecting. This, admittedly, tests my commitment to my values, as well as my stress threshold when dealing with the delay of a customer order to ensure they receive the level of quality I have promised.
When a few big expenses will pile up, or I run into issues with my factory and my pieces meeting my quality standards, or I go for a long stretch without any sales, I really start to question my “Why”. I think that’s why having a strong purpose for your work when you are pursuing a creative and/or entrepreneurial endeavor is so important. When all the pieces fit together and my message lands or I hit a growth marker, it brings everything back into tune.
My “Why” is to filter out the noise and grab hold of a single, clear wavelength of focus that, when honed, tunes me into a creative symphony. When the jewelry and the story around it by way of materials, imagery, messaging, and vibe all come together to share a message of creative victory and empowerment that the customer resonates with and finds inspiration from is what keeps me going. To pass the torch, if you will, and hopefully ignite someone else’s flame.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My company, Talismania Jewelry, is a vessel for the tale of the journey to self discovery that we are all on. Each collection is, and will be, an exploration of the outer world as a reflection of the inner world, and the message of empowerment as we tune into our inner voice. I have had a few experiences in my life where I felt like symbols were presented to me by inexplicable forces to guide me along my way. This is where the concept of Talismania comes from – adorning your journey in symbols, talismans of your most cherished experiences or battles won. I want to tap into that energy with my messages, because there are so many reasons presented to us to be afraid all the time, or worried, or stressed out, living from an insurmountable deficit, and I want to help people tap into a life that feels like an empowering adventure instead.
As for my jewelry designs, I am focused on sustainable luxury. I create high quality jewelry using only natural, responsibly sourced materials. This means recycled metals, ethically sourced stones, recyclable and compostable packaging and carbon-neutral shipping.
I have three categories of jewelry currently – accessible ready-to-wear, premium ready-to-wear, and custom. My accessible ready-to-wear applies my quality standards to sterling silver and semi-precious gemstones, creating unique designs that customers can feel good about wearing without a major life event to justify the purchase. My premium ready-to-wear are one of a kind designs specializing in Montana Sapphires and diamonds, and solid gold. These pieces are unique in so many ways and are really designed to tell a story and speak to the perfect client, becoming a special symbol to them in their day to day life. Finally, custom commissions are ground-up projects where I work with my clients to hand select the stones, draft out designs, and fabricate the perfect piece for them. Examples of this are engagement rings, anniversary gifts, and other special gifts that create future heirlooms.
My pieces are currently available at the Flying Solo store in Paris (43 Rue Étienne Marcel) through the Fall.
How do you think about happiness?
I absolutely love the storytelling element of what I do. The jewelry design is rewarding and fun as well, but the real joy comes from expanding upon it to create an inspired tale.
The hero is the patron, wading through the dogma of daily life. Just when they think they will be smothered by monotony and noise, they find a glimmer of empowerment and inspiration that allows them to tap into their inner power, to take the next step in their journey upward. Along the way they discover a talisman, a unique reminder of that moment of truth, so they can continue onward along their path and carry the treasure that tells them: They are, in fact, Extraordinary.
There are so many settings and scenes, images and symbols that can be used to drive this storyline. My mission is to keep unveiling these powerful narratives, one unique piece at a time, for as long as I have the ability to create.
