Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Archer.

Hi Danny, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

Danny started doing magic as a hobby when he was 29 years old. In 1988 he left his job as salesman with Apple Computer and started to work at the Philadelphia Magic Company. Working behind the counter was a crash course in performing, and Danny learned a lot about magic and magicians. It was a wonderful time up until the company folded in 1991. Danny went back to work in the real world and in March of 1994 he relocated to Denver, CO. He was working once again in computer sales when he suffered his first heart attack. In the recovery room he realized that life was too short and that he was not doing what he wanted with his life, so he decided to give magic one more chance. The day after his second daughter was born, he quit his job to become a professional magician.

Starting in 2001 he produced his own close-up convention, The Las Vegas Magic Invitational with his business partner Robert Allen. Starting in 2004 they also produced the very successful MINDvention mentalism convention and in 2013 he launched the Mind Summit mentalism convention in Cologne, Germany.

When not working for the magic community, he performs in front of many different types of groups, specializing in the corporate marketplace either as himself or as Gino Mozzarella one of his colorful performance characters. Danny creates his own original magic effects and performs both close-up and stand-up magic. His magic is visual, dynamic, and created to be performed in real-world situations.

Starting in December 2007, Danny began performing close-up magic nightly at an upscale restaurant in the ski resort of Vail, CO. He has honed his skills and talents there for eight years until finally deciding to try something new.

Something new is the Smoke & Mirrors Magic Theater, a custom-built venue for live magic performances which Danny and his business partner Marty Martin opened in August of 2017. The theater has presented hundreds of shows and we have entertained thousands of guests through the years.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My path has always had some bumps and twists in it. I have four heart attacks (the last one on stage at the theater during a show) and they all, except for the first, had some connection to my magic career.

For our theater, Covid has been a very big bump in the road. We did not do a show for eighteen months and even after resuming, we can still feel the effects of the pandemic till this day. We all face challenges in our professional (and personal) lives and I try to let then inspire me to work harder and overcome them.

Our custom-built theater has sixty seats in four rows. The front row is on the stage and the other three rows are sharply tiered so everyone can see everything perfectly.

In addition to our main theater, our Black Box Theater the Houdini Lounge, doubles as our BYOB lounge and banquet room. This incredible space has hosted hundreds of private parties and special events.

How do you think about happiness?
Watching a great movie because it makes me think how I can make my audiences happy. Playing golf, because I love being outdoors and trying to play my best.
Listening to music because it fills my soul with joy.
Entertaining an audience and hearing them clap and laugh. That means that all my hard work was worthwhile.
