Today we’d like to introduce you to Asa Leveaux.
Hi Asa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey in the business transformational space began in 2007. At that time, I owned a childcare facility licensed for over 120 children. It was so large that I was responsible for two electrical accounts for one building. Simultaneously, I owned an African-American centered art and collectible boutique called Mahogany Concepts, known for offering fraternity and sorority regalia of the historically black Greek-lettered organizations commonly referred to as the “Divine 9”. In 2007, my son (whom I also refer to as my s-u-n) turned one year old, and I began receiving questions about how, at 24 years old, I managed to run two businesses without any loans or financial backing. I took these questions with delight and answered them in the same spirit. I would glow from the inside out when I saw the realization dawn on someone that owning a business was possible for them as well. Though I relished in owning these businesses, and eventually a few more, they failed to exist. They failed because I didn’t understand concepts such as paying myself first, finding a mentor, not listening to those who had never started anything, or principles such as industry-specific profit margins. As a result of those failures, I ran away. I found a position in Southern California, experienced a divorce, went through a period of homelessness, and found myself go-go dancing in various gay clubs in the Inland Empire and Los Angeles… and I was good at it. I did my best to run away, but the vision wouldn’t run away from me. Eventually, I found myself moving back to Oklahoma City, only to drive across the country to San Diego to attend an event by Lisa Nichols, whom many remember from “The Secret”. As a result of meeting her, my entire world was blown apart in the most amazing way that I ever imagined. She planted the seed then, in 2014, by saying the following: people will pay you not just for what you do but also for what you know. And with that seed, House of Icons exists today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well, let me tell you, the road I’ve traveled has been paved with numerous struggles and challenges. One particular struggle revolved around my inability to understand that my life could change as a result of my pure imagination. I didn’t realize that I had been creating my life for years. For instance, before I received my driver’s license at the age of sixteen, I would fantasize about the feeling of driving my parents’ car, picking up my best friend Aundrae, and hitting the highway with Missy Elliott or Outkast blasting through the speakers. However, that’s exactly what happened.
In order to keep expanding my imagination, I consume content from thinkers such as Abraham Hicks, Neville Goddard, and Michael Bernard Beckwith. Another hurdle was not truly understanding the concept of “charging what it’s worth”. If you notice, I didn’t say to charge what you are worth because we, as divine beings, are limitlessly worthy, meaning no one could ever give us anything in exchange for who we BE. However, truly understanding the marketplace, being knowledgeable about trends, and having an open ear to the industry is inherent to being able to charge the worth of your offering, and add tax. A tool that has supported me in understanding my industry has looked like becoming comfortable with IBIS industry reports.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The House of Icons is where icons reside. You see, the reason we refer to our iconic clients as “icons” is for them to remember their divinity. I see everyone in a way that borrows from RuPaul when I say, we are all gods in drag. There have been times when individuals believed that our focus on the word ‘icon’ was meant to articulate our ego, but that is the furthest from the truth. We exist to see the beauty, fame, acclaim, and audacious spectacle that is embodied within those we serve.
House of Icons is a private specialty agency that supports you in creating, positioning, and monetizing your expertise. We are committed to our framework, which we refer to as the ICON Method. To be clear, ICON is an acronym that stands for: Imagine, Create, Optimize, and Nourish. We have created a suite of services to support icons that go hand-in-hand with our framework.
To imagine what is possible, the Icon Prescription is the elixir of choice. If you are in the creation phase, then we prescribe Icon University. In the event that optimization needs to be the focus, you would enroll in the Icon Incubator. If you truly desire to be nourished and pampered, then Icon Domination is for you, our year-long done-for-you program which has a written profit guarantee around your success of being an industry celebrity expert with a personal brand you’re proud of, or Icon Obsession, which serves as our destination-based event that will literally take your breath away.
Lastly, we recently launched our SaaS to support our icons with an all-in-one communication platform that helps them convert leads into clients. What’s different about House of Icons is that we don’t care about vanity metrics; rather, we concern ourselves with the pillars of an iconic business, which are: clarity, marketing, sales, operations, finance, and accountability.
As a result of staying focused while reminding our icons just how worthy they are, we are able to receive testimonials from individuals having the best revenue in their business, being able to finally produce a branded book, or realizing that you can combine the “woo woo” stuff and business in a blissful way. I am proud of us with our ability to stay in our lane and being able to serve a childcare owner of multiple locations in Oklahoma while exceeding the expectations of a well-known actress and activist in Atlanta, Georgia.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
In regards to taking risks, I feel that I have been saturated in the nectar of what we refer to as risk. Everything from enlisting in the Army in 2001 after 9/11, to being sent to my first deployment to Afghanistan in 2003, opening two businesses within the same year as my son was born, being a part of such demonstrations as Jena 6 in Louisiana, coming out as pansexual, moving to different countries, doing my best to adore love after having experiences where it felt that love didn’t love me back, or traveling to twenty-five countries. I walk hand-in-hand with risk these days because I’ve been around long enough to see the beautiful end after the murky middle.
