Hi Andres, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

I was recovering from a dark period when I decided to find a new adventure in my spare time. I got back into painting and being creative, learning how to make things at home to further my creativity. I found candle-making on YouTube. It looked like a great way to gift my loved ones with something I made. I purchased a small candle-making kit and began my journey into candle-making. With a lot of troubleshooting, time, testing, and patience I made a candle formula that worked perfectly! With all the positive feedback my gifts became orders. So I took it to the next step and started my small business selling online. Our Mexican style candles have become a hit selling out at local farmer markets and online. Reaching our 3 year in business we have grown substantially and have bigger plans for our company next year. What started as a hobby to give handmade gifts, now is full time career.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

Not at all! Learning how to operate a business. It’s a Constance learning experience. Also, logistics when it comes to shipping out products to customers. Learning how to ship items out correctly and how to ship at affordable rates took a lot of ‘trial and error’ to figure out.

As you know, we’re big fans of Buho Candle Company. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

We are a homemade candle company that specializes in cleaner, non-toxic burning candles and also, at high candle performance at an affordable price. We incorporate our Mexican heritage into products and scents so everyone can enjoy Mexican nostalgia aromas in their homes like our most popular candle “Horchata scented candles”.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?

That I am a dude. Most of the time networking with other brands or influencers they right away assume I am a female. I assume most candle makers are female. Behind Buho Candles is a regular guy who just really enjoys making candles every day.
