We asked some of the brightest folks from within the community to reflect back on their days in school and to share with us a story of when they learned a particularly important or impactful lesson. We’ve shared highlights below.
Kitchy Crouse

Going to Design School taught me a lot. From the many fields that you can work on, to the importance of the history of Design. But most importantly, I learned how to work as a team. Contractors and sub-contractors are the most important keys to success. They do the execution of your ideas and there has to be a very open communication to make things happens functionally and aesthetically. My education through graduate school was filled with many lessons, but perhaps the essential ones happened during elementary school. I loved learning but was quiet and shy and never felt like I fit in. I would sit near the back of the classroom, imagining I had the superpower of invisibility. When I was 25 and going through my graduate program to become a Marriage and Family Therapist, I was asked to give a “self of the therapist” presentation. This gives a therapist a chance to reflect on their own personal experiences and challenges and how this shapes them as a provider.
