We asked some of the brightest folks from within the community to reflect back on their days in school and to share with us a story of when they learned a particularly important or impactful lesson. We’ve shared highlights below.
Virginia Crouse

A lesson that was hard and is still hard for me to comprehend is that no matter how hard you work for a goal or achievement people will not always be happy for you and people will try to tear you down before even attempting to learn your story. One of my biggest achievements as a dancer was being a top 12 contestant on season 17 of So You Think You Can Dance and it’s still a so real thing for me to think back on, but many people were angry and unhappy that I achieved this goal of mine that I’ve had since I was a little girl. When I was struggling with great adversity in my life in both undergraduate and graduate school, 2 mentors and now close friends gave me advice that I now live by everyday. It pulled me back on track. A great friend and mentor once told me “artists always seem to find a way, keep a level head, keep going”, and another mentor told me “a great kindness is better than winning”. I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design MFA Interior Design Program. Apart from receiving the top interior design education at SCAD, I chose three business courses with Professor Jeremy Kobus. He was always patient in answering all my questions, carefully reviewed my business analyses, and provided me positive feedback. For the group tests during midterms and finals, I never thought I could memorize those challenging business terminology definitions. Read more>>
