One of the best things about video games is the ability to restart – you can use your learnings to move faster and avoid obstacles. We often think about what we would do differently if we were starting over in business and we figured others probably think about this as well and so we asked the community to share their thoughts with us.

If I were to embark on my spray tan business journey again, I would approach it with much more enthusiasm and dedication. I would start by taking an in-depth spray tan course, ensuring I had a thorough understanding of the science and technique behind the service. I was incredibly lucky to have been gifted a spray tan machine from my ex sister in law, Agnes Gilson, the owner of Waxing with Aggy, and her encouragement to start my own business was invaluable. As a self- employed artist, my biggest regret is attending a very expensive undergraduate program instead of investing my time and effort into business education and going somewhere more affordable. I have always known that i wanted to be self-employed and to own my own business or arts non-profit. However, I had very little real world knowledge of how businesses are run or how much student debt can impact us. Read more>>

I believe that the real estate industry has such a high rate of failure due to the lack of a true “roadmap to success” upon licensure. In fact, there should be courses geared towards capturing clients and the day to day activities of successful agents PRIOR to licensure. I had a very slow start in my business. My first year I made about 900$ and the following year around 3000$ (not from a lack of trying). If I had known then what I know now things would have looked really different. This was a big driver as to why I chose to coach business moms on their mindset. When I started my business I knew I would need some help getting started so I read books, bought some courses, and had all the information, but I didn’t know how to get out of my own way. Read more>>

Opening A Delicate Edge in May of 2013 at 20 years old was probably one of the most challenging, yet rewarding times within my life. I decided to open the boutique while I was finishing up my college program, and because of this, I struggled with the idea of finishing school while coming up with plans to open a successful independently owned fashion boutique. When I first decided to pursue Real Estate, I was a few years into my career as an HR Analyst after graduating from UMSL with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. I had the fear of uncertain income and no health insurance holding me back from fully jumping in to Real Estate. My husband was my biggest supporter, always encouraging me to take the leap into Real Estate full time; he recognized my love for, and drive to be successful in, this line of work. Read more>>

When I was just starting out as a new business owner, I really struggled trying to do everything myself. I was working another full-time job at the time and would stay up all hours of the night to complete orders. One time I worked for 56 hours straight with no sleep. If I could go back and do anything differently, I would have hired help sooner. Read more>>

If I was starting over, the one thing I would do differently is to learn my worth. When I first started photography, I was working a corporate 9-5 job and taking photo clients on the weekends. The amount of work I was putting in to photography was just as many hours & effort as my corporate job, yet I didn’t believe in myself. Read more>>
