The number one thing we hear from entrepreneurs and artists and creatives when we ask them about their education is about how irrelevant it was to their story. Sure, some folks had wonderful educational experiences, but for many their experiences left them feeling ill prepared for life and their careers. So, we wanted to create a space for folks to share their experiences and ideas for how we can improve our educational system.

My response to this question may put a target on my back but my true feelings…… The educational system is one that is complex, yet may need a closer look from a teacher’s point of view. Since we are the ones on the front line, why not consider the views of the teachers first? With this concept, we are not only giving the teachers a voice and supporting them while being an advocate for educators, but this also opens the door for the need of true differentiation. My line of business is all about accounting and I teach a software that is designed to manage a business in a friendly format. And one thing I have encountered in the working field is that young generations who have completed a higher level education degree in Finance, Business and even in Administrative courses, , lack of the basic accounting terms. As someone who has experienced the traditional educational system in America, and also someone who has done a significant amount of self learning through free, online resources, and experiential learning, I believe that our educational system has to do a better job of assisting students in developing their ability to learn conceptually and explore alternative learning routes that may not completely conform to the way our educational system has been structured in the past. It seems schools/teachers/admin/people who make educational decisions have forgotten just how kids “work”. With diagnoses of behavioral issues on the rise, it seems we are more concerned with punishment over understanding. Speaking from an elementary age perspective, we (society) forgets to embrace difference when it comes to behavioral ability, often holding children to higher standards to which we hold ourselves to. I personally know of 3 friends/acquaintances that have had their kindergartner SUSPENDED. Read more>>

As I’m sure is true of anyone familiar with the retrogression of American education, I could write a book, or several, on what I would change about the educational system in the United States. For the sake of brevity, I’ll speak only to the acute problem that Perspectiv is solving, which is an infinitesimal piece of a puzzle for which finding a solution is imperative. Read more>>

I would change the educational system to have a more holistic and inclusive learning style that views the entire student as a human being and not so much all based on knowledge and test scores. Also less on competition, but rather on building community, helping each other thrive and well being. I feel it’s too much centered around test scores and less about building children up in their confidence and to trust that they will find the right career and personal path. I was lucky enough to attend a Waldorf School in Munich, which I have to say win Germany they have a sliding scale, so anyone really can attend and it much ;less or a system of private school, where only the wealthier children and teenagers can attend. I really loved going to school for mopst part, we we also did so much by hand. Read more>>

For the sake of the mission of my foundation, I would like to answer this question through the context of Nigerian education. Our mission as a foundation is to inspire graduating Senior Secondary School students to embark on their journey towards acquiring a University/ College education in Nigeria. We intend to do this by aiding their dreams and aspirations financially so as to relieve a substantial part of the burden that the cost of further education might be. That being said, it is the change that is needed in the Nigerian education system that inspires a majority of everything we do as a foundation. Read more>>

If I could change one thing about the education system for students to be more prepared for a fulfilling life and career, I would recommend everyone take a gap year or do an internship before deciding on a major. When I was in college, I changed majors 5+ times resulting later in no degree because the bottom line was I had no idea what I actually wanted to do. Read more>>
