The number one thing we hear from entrepreneurs and artists and creatives when we ask them about their education is about how irrelevant it was to their story. Sure, some folks had wonderful educational experiences, but for many their experiences left them feeling ill prepared for life and their careers. So, we wanted to create a space for folks to share their experiences and ideas for how we can improve our educational system.

“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid’’. Said Albert Einsten. The traditional and orthodox educational system has not changed since the last century, I believe that it is a crime to keep creating spaces where students with different types of intelligences receive academical orders to achieve ‘’standard goals’’ that evaluate them as they were the same beings. I would change the way teachers are viewed. Most teachers are viewed as a glorified daycare teacher (no shade to daycares). A lot of teachers deal with disrespect from the educational system itself starting with how they are paid. The next thing I would change is how a village isn’t helping a child anymore. 8 hours a day may seem long but it’s really not. That extra 15-30 minutes at home reviewing makes a ton of difference in students knowing their school work and bettering themselves. Read more>>

I think it’s become more and more unfair to purport the need for a college degree in today’s re-engineered workforce. Sure, we want our surgeons and our lawyers and our bankers to have a degree. However, the current workforce is much different now than it was when I was first peddled the line, “a college education is central to being successful as an adult. Read more>>

This is a loaded question I could discuss for many days. The education system needs an overhaul from the way it’s structured to the curriculum. I have an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, and an MBA, and I love teaching. However, I knew my senior year after doing student teaching that I did not want to go into a classroom to teach. Read more>>

Every hairstylist I’ve talked to will tell you the same thing – beauty school is rough, but you just have to get through it and get licensed so you can get out in the salon world. That’s so discouraging for future students and beauty professionals, to hear that the next 8 months – 2 years won’t be super pleasant even though it’s worth it in the end. So many people start out school enthusiastic but end up dropping out and pursuing something else. If I were to have control over the education system, Read more>>

What I would change about the educational system is how they don’t teach most of the things we need in the real world. For an example I was fresh out of high school and I didn’t even know anything about credit at all or where to even start to build my credit until my mother sat me down and told me about it. I didn’t even know how to file my taxes or find my own insurance or even take a loan for a car until my mother told me. Read more>>

This question comes with so much to digest. The one thing I would change is the one-size fits all format way students are learning. From my experience I realised I was a visual learner. Some students may be auditory learners or they learn by getting their hands on something. Read more>>
