The number one thing we hear from entrepreneurs and artists and creatives when we ask them about their education is about how irrelevant it was to their story. Sure, some folks had wonderful educational experiences, but for many their experiences left them feeling ill prepared for life and their careers. So, we wanted to create a space for folks to share their experiences and ideas for how we can improve our educational system.

Our education system has long been focused on preparing students for college and their future careers. However, there is one important life skill that is often left out of the curriculum: financial literacy. With the cost of college rising and student loan debt at an all-time high, it’s more important than ever for young people to understand the basics of personal finance. Financial literacy should be taught in schools so that students can learn how to budget, save, and invest for their future. This question hits home, because we all start our childhood learning from an experimental form of teaching. Whether society believes it or not. For example you can tell a child a stove is hot but until they touch it, they won’t know for sure unless they see for themselves. That is what I would change about our educational system. My focus was to create a curriculum based website that was inclusive and diverse and highlighted the talented artists that live and work in Minnesota. The website has a list of artists, museums, galleries, resources, lessons and other online guides to help art educators.
