The number one thing we hear from entrepreneurs and artists and creatives when we ask them about their education is about how irrelevant it was to their story. Sure, some folks had wonderful educational experiences, but for many their experiences left them feeling ill prepared for life and their careers. So, we wanted to create a space for folks to share their experiences and ideas for how we can improve our educational system.

I would love for the education system to make owning your own business less scary, yes it’s a lot of work, but it can be very profitable if you hustle and put your heart and souls into it. I hate that straight off to college or into a trade is always the answer, because I know just as you know that 18 is not when you know exactly what you want or where your life should be. I think the constant push for a 9-5 job after 4 years of college should be an option but not the only one. Read more>>

This is is a question I often think about, especially as a graduate of the University of Michigan, and even more so, now that I have two young children, ages 3.5 and 1.5. More often than not, I think about how my early education shaped my perspective of self, my understanding of the world, and my ability to think critically and find answers by taking initiative. I have been coaching and consulting sales professionals for over 10 years now, and am really coming to the realization that the qualified workers candidate pool is continuing to shrink. The younger class is coming into the workplace very entitled and with a very low work ethic. Paying attention to these trends I am seeing a big shift in how people are associating education and true development through a new age of content consumption. Read more>>

This question has a lot of different alleys to go down, but I’ll try my best to stay on the topic of Financial Literacy. The economic learning structure that public schools have is a weak one. Public school doesn’t fulfill the need to provide students the option of breaking barriers within the financial gaps of the society that they will soon be living in. It seems like public schools create worker bees and not innovative thinkers. Read more>>

As a recent post-grad (ok, maybe not so recent, I graduated in 2020), I think there is a lot to learn from the online education system and for universities to structure traditional learning initiatives in a more innovative way, especially when it comes to marketing and social media. I am so thankful to have the privilege and support of my family helping me through college, but the majority of tools and knowledge I use for my career have been self-taught through courses and certifications. I believe we need a major reform of our current educational system. We need to teach our children financial literacy, balancing a budget, healthy nutrition, sustainable living, tax preparation, small business generation, tradesmanship, how to deal with emotions, communication skills, energy balancing, work life balance, mental health and much more real world fundamental knowledge. I would make it clear as day, that you do not need to go to 4 year university to have a successful career. That is all I heard growing up in school, that you either go into the military or go to college. So I went to college and wasted a lot of time and money on something I never even completed. Trade jobs are important to society and often times pay much more than jobs these days that require degrees. Follow your heart and your passion regardless of what some high school counselor tells you to do. Read more>>

As a scholar, I am researching the evolution of American education from colonial times to the present day. Despite the advances in technology, our educational system still has many gaps, mainly in the area of individualized learning. Educating a child is not a one-size-fits-all approach because many factors affect student comprehension, i.e. environment, access to resources, history, background, etc. Read more>>
