The number one thing we hear from entrepreneurs and artists and creatives when we ask them about their education is about how irrelevant it was to their story. Sure, some folks had wonderful educational experiences, but for many their experiences left them feeling ill prepared for life and their careers. So, we wanted to create a space for folks to share their experiences and ideas for how we can improve our educational system.

As someone with two university degrees, I have always been a proponent of formal education. Not because of the content being taught, but because of the overall experience that a traditional, formal education provides. The environment that a student gets to feel a part of at many traditional institutions of higher learning across the country and really the world is unparalleled. From connecting with fellow students from all walks of life, to learning valuable intrapersonal skills via incredible student-led organizations, Read more>>

Honestly if I knew what I knew now I would have not attended college, because I would took a different approach from networking on film set, worked on short or Feature film for free to gain experience and ultimately build relationship. Today younger generation has so much more free resources to learn film and gain knowledge from YouTube, masterclass, and shadowing people more experience. Read more>>

It’s a common answer but involving more classes about managing finances and a class that teach you more about cultures maybe. Environmental science too or something because we don’t have those skill no more either. I want to live on a farm later Read more>>

If I could change anything about our educational system, it would be to make it more individualized and user-focused. As we move toward a more AI-infused and automated world, I am hopeful that curricula will also move toward being more customizable, allowing students to tailor their own experience to the ways that they learn best. I realize that asking teachers to do that in classes that are too big, and schedules that are too tight, is not feasible, but I would love to see schools leverage technology to make that more and more possible. An 18 year old Minneapolis high school student was being interviewed during the teachers strike earlier in 2022 and was asked a similar question. His answer encompasses the same tendencies I’ve noticed in our industry as well. “An ideal public education system would not be focused on making the most productive workers possible and dehumanizing them. Success should not mean how much you can contribute to the ruling class but what you can achieve for yourself and your fellow workers.” Read more>>

I would like a mandatory service to state or country, begging with freshman to last until graduation, incorporating basic education, life living skills, and training in a field of the students interest. It would be like a paid internship. It would help family financials and give a starting path to the young adults. Read more>>

As we all know, the educational system in America has its flaws in many different ways such as the information that’s being taught, the corruption behind it, and the false information being given to students. One way how I would change the education system is by providing the proper tools for the scholar of the United States to succeed. The education system in America has to tell the truth. Read more>>

I would encourage more art programs and lessons tailored toward the strengths and interests of students. I applied my interest in science fiction to my lessons in grade school, which helped me excel, but I think many kids are written off as problematic or slow learners only because teachers cannot keep their interest or understand how to convey information better to them. I also think more screening should be done with teachers to ensure they are gifted educators and passionate about youth. Read more>>

I believe personal finance is an essential part of life. I also believe, like many other things thoughts in schools and are required credits before graduation, it too should be, For years I have been advocating for personal finance as a required course, as opposed to an elective, before each young person graduates high school. This mission has yet to be accomplished in that state I currently live in. I am hopeful that will change, Read more>>

I would implement financial education classes that teach about credit, assets vs liabilities, taxes, etc. History classes taught by people of the corresponding culture. Emotional intelligence class so students learn self discipline when acting on their emotions. Read more>>

The change to the educational system that I would implement is that we must make sure that our teachers are taken care of. Besides being teachers, they may have to be mothers or fathers to their students, counselors to parents and troubled students, paying out of their pockets for school supplies, must manage an IEP, and lack of support from the school system and parents. One thing that needs to be changed in the educational system is the hands on experiences or work based learning opportunities. Creating a space and time for employability skills, demonstrating work ethics and hard-skills with an emphasis on soft-skills. This should take place from our community business owners, small businesses as well as big fortune 500 companies engaging with Trade schools and/or high schools to provide the real life experience. If the education system was bold enough to evolve as other industries have, we will then get to a point where community partnerships happen in early learning years and continue through highschool and beyond. As an entrepreneur, one of the best assets for our company, Educators Now, is talent…like MOST companies. Read more>>
