Today we’d like to introduce you to Yuliya Semenovych.
Hi Yuliya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story is similar to a lot of people who came to the United States as immigrant children.
I was born in Ukraine, and when I was 7 years old, my parents won a green card in the lottery. We came to the US with nothing – we didn’t know the language, had no money, and had no one here to turn to. My parents worked two, three, sometimes four jobs at a time to provide basic comforts for me and my sister. From a very young age, I was expected to “figure it out”.
I was bullied for everything from being poor, to my clothes not being cool, from not speaking English to living in a rough neighborhood. This left a little bit of a chip on my shoulder, since up to that point I was one of the smartest kids in school with a very large, loving family network. I took the challenge of learning English on, and not only learned it but ended up skipping a grade and eventually graduating high school top of my class.
I attended Hofstra University on a scholarship, and again graduated with honors. Once I graduate, I took advantage of the work-holiday visa program and moved to New Zealand. Since then I’ve lived in 6 counties, and travel to at least 40 others.
A few years ago I came back to the east coast for my sister’s wedding. When the lockdown happened and I became stuck in the US, I started working on opening my dream business – a biohacking and wellness center. Shortly after that, the invasion of Ukraine happened and my world shattered since the majority of my family still lives there.
Within a week of the war, my parents and I started collecting money from friends and neighbors and buying supplies to support all the volunteers heading to the front lines. I then personally flew with 15-30 suitcases at a time and delivered hundreds of pounds of gear directly into the hands of people that were my social glue until I moved to America. When the official aid channels finally opened up, I transitioned back to working on my business plan.
Today, I am the proud owner and founder of Elixir Health and Wellness in Bethlehem, PA.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road looking back – but it never felt like a struggle while I was going through it.
I recently heard something that really resonated with me and helped me understand myself better. And that’s the idea that you get a different answer when you ask someone who loves to do something versus someone who hates it.
About 10 years ago I realized that I’m very comfortable being uncomfortable, and not only am I comfortable with it – I seek it out. Becoming stagnant sounds like death by a thousand paper cuts to me. I love to learn, and my curiosity has been something I treasure. My mom recently told me that one of the first things I learned to say was “what’s that?” and “why’s that?”.
My obstacles ranged from lack of money, not knowing a language, lack of mentorship, lack of education, lack of citizenship, being too young, lack of experience, too much experience. You name it, I’ve probably overcame it.
But I also probably put myself there so that I could overcome it.
Growth and learning come from obstacles, and I learned to see it that way from a very young age.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Elixir Health and Wellness?
Elixir Health and Wellness is a one-of-a-kind wellness and biohacking center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. We specialize in helping people age backwards on a cellular level, boost energy, speed up recovery, and optimize their health.
I built the center on an East – warm, integrative, foundational, natural – meets West – cutting-edge, non-invasive, scientifically-backed technology – approach. I also prioritized Blue Zone™ philosophies, such as community and quality of life, when building out the center.
Our clients are our friends; no topic is off-limits, forming connections with other clients in encouraged, and expressing your opinions are highly welcome. We also regularly discuss misconceptions about health and inspire clients to go after their dreams in our newsletter.
Our Hyperbaric Chambers have hundreds of investigational conditions clients have come seeking help with. The Red Light panels and Compression gear have both grown in popularity worldwide over the last few years and we are the go-to center in the Lehigh Valley for both.
Our health optimization program is another key offering. We aim to rebalance your health and address the root cause of your symptoms, without focusing on the symptoms themselves, through in-depth personalized testing. We look at everything from environmental toxins and nutrient deficiencies, to gut issues and mitochondrial health. The best part is that we can work with you remotely from anywhere across the US, and all the kits are done at home!
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
