Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Lawrence
Hi Vanessa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Vee’s Catering was birth more than 26 years ago when I knew I wanted to have a career in food service. I did my first wedding and was hooked. My family and I moved to Denver Colorado after surviving hurricane Katrina. The adjustment was just what I needed. I became a single parent when my daughter was 9 years old, living in Denver. I know I had to do something different from cosmetology. The culinary world was literally calling my name and I answered the call.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth roll at all. It always starts with a dream and the belief that you can do it. I am not a stranger to hard work, and that was what I needed to do to make this dream happen. After being in a homeless state; living in transitional housing, I was able to go to go to an accelerated culinary program. I was top of my class and was recognized as student of the month. I was able to give a speech on my accomplishments as well as given the opportunity to speak to other students and people of all kinds during a fundraising event where 600 people was in attendance..
I knew I just needed to get it done in order to make a difference in the life of my daughter. I’m so glad that I did because it brought me to where I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My company specializes in all natural, MSG free, seasonings and Fry packs. I have a fish and chicken season pack. I have nine seasonings and currently working on more ways to better my product with more variety.
My custom line will allow you to use multiple seasonings to help you better your cooking experience. Using my fish and chicken fry will allow you to make some of your favorite fried foods as well as use them in the air fryer, hassle-free without adding any extra salt.
In addition to my seasoning line, I also offer catering services for meal prep, small intimate events, tasting parties in the New Jersey area. I am fairly new to the area and I look forward to being able to serve the people in the Trenton /Hamilton area.
I have a passion for what I do and every day I am looking forward to sharing my love of food by packaging orders. Then a small business, sometimes we have to work a lot harder to make our dreams come true.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes I have learned so many important lessons. In spite of the covid-19 era, people were cooking a lot more than going out to eat. This was somewhat of an advantage for me because I am still able to share my love of food with the rest of the world.
