Today we’d like to introduce you to Vaani Sai.
Hi Vaani, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been inspired by literature. Like many adolescents, I grew up devouring fantasy and contemporary fiction, drawn to the way stories could transport me to different worlds and perspectives. Writing felt natural to me, but pursuing it as a career was another story.
Coming from an immigrant household, the arts were seen as a hobby—something to be enjoyed, but not pursued seriously. Instead, I was encouraged to choose a STEM field, one that promised stability and security. That led me to study neuroscience, a field I found fascinating but ultimately not fulfilling in the way I had hoped. I knew I didn’t want to work in a lab or follow a traditional research path, but I wasn’t sure what alternative existed.
Eventually, I found my way back to publishing, carving out a space where I could blend my scientific background with my love for writing. Having faced cultural resistance to pursuing a creative career, I deeply understood how difficult it is for others—especially those from similar backgrounds—to take that leap. That’s what led me to found neurowrite: a platform that merges my expertise in neuroscience with my passion for creativity.
neurowrite originally started as a course-based model designed to help writers overcome writer’s block using neuroscience. Over time, it has evolved into something much bigger. Now, I work as a creativity coach, guiding writers, creators, and artists of all vocations. I combine cognitive and behavioral neuroscience principles with creativity coaching to help them build creative confidence, break through creative resistance, and reach their full creative potential.
Though I work with creatives from all walks of life, I feel particularly drawn to supporting other Brown women. I know firsthand the cultural barriers we face when choosing a creative path—whether it’s the pressure to follow a ‘practical’ career or the fear of instability. My goal is to empower them with the tools, mindset, and support they need to confidently pursue their creative dreams.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes and no.
On one hand, entrepreneurship is exciting. The possibilities are endless, and I’ve had the opportunity to do things I never would have otherwise—like meeting incredible entrepreneurs, building something from the ground up, and learning technical skills I wouldn’t have been forced to hone in a traditional career path. It’s given me a level of freedom and creativity that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
But on the other hand, entrepreneurship is still not fully embraced in the Brown community. There’s a deep-rooted preference for stability—medicine, engineering, law—careers that come with a clear path and predictable success. The uncertainty of running a business, especially in a creative field, isn’t always understood or encouraged. That cultural resistance has been one of the biggest challenges, both externally and internally. I had to unlearn the scarcity mindset I grew up with, and even now, I sometimes find myself pushing back against ingrained ideas about what ‘success’ should look like.
Still, despite the challenges, I wouldn’t change my path. The struggles have made me more resilient, and they fuel my mission to help other creatives—especially those facing similar cultural pressures—pursue their passions without fear.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about neurowrite?
neurowrite is a mission-driven platform dedicated to supporting and empowering creatives. I specialize in neuroscience-based creativity coaching, helping writers, artists, and creators overcome resistance, build confidence, and unlock their full creative potential. Whether it’s writer’s block, procrastination, or self-doubt, I use a blend of cognitive and behavioral neuroscience principles with creativity coaching techniques to guide my clients through the challenges that hold them back.
But beyond coaching, education is a core part of what I do. In a world where creatives are so often undervalued and underpaid, I would be remiss to ignore the importance of accessible resources. That’s why neurowrite also offers free tools, insights, and educational content to help creatives navigate their journeys—whether or not they’re in a position to invest in coaching.
What sets neurowrite apart is its unique science-backed approach to creativity. I don’t believe in vague motivation or one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, I offer strategies rooted in neuroscience—helping creatives understand how their brains work so they can optimize their creative flow, break through mental blocks, and create with more ease and consistency.
At the heart of it all, neurowrite is about advocacy. It’s about ensuring that creatives—especially those from marginalized backgrounds—feel seen, supported, and empowered to pursue their dreams without fear or limitation. That’s what I’m most proud of, and that’s what drives everything I do.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I wouldn’t be here without my business coach and dear friend, Erica Rivera. She has been the most instrumental figure in my entrepreneurial journey—offering guidance, love, and unwavering support. When I knew nothing about starting a business, she gave me the tools, knowledge, and encouragement to take my first steps. She pushed me to believe in my vision, even when I doubted myself, and helped me navigate the complexities of entrepreneurship with confidence.
I also have to thank my close friend and finance coach, Michael Kim. When I was struggling—not just financially, but internally—he taught me the importance of investing in myself. He helped me shift my mindset around money, risk, and self-worth, ultimately giving me the confidence to take the leap into entrepreneurship. His guidance helped me see that financial security and creative freedom aren’t mutually exclusive, and that was a game-changer.
My friends—both those who have been with me for years and the new entrepreneurial communities I’ve found—have also played an invaluable role in my journey. Their encouragement, advice, and willingness to share their own experiences have helped me grow not only as an entrepreneur but as a person. Whether it was through late-night brainstorming sessions, accountability check-ins, or simply reminding me why I started in the first place, their support has been a constant source of motivation.
And of course, I have to thank my parents—but maybe not in the way one might expect. Yes, they played a big role in creating resistance to creativity and entrepreneurship, urging me toward a more traditional career path. But without that resistance, I wouldn’t have developed the resilience, determination, and clarity of purpose that now define my work. Their challenges forced me to fight for my own path, and in doing so, I discovered just how much I believe in what I do.
Beyond these incredible folks, I’m deeply grateful for every client, reader, and fellow creative who has trusted me, worked with me, or shared in this journey. Seeing their growth and success is what fuels me every day.
