Today we’d like to introduce you to Saul Gomez
Hi Saul, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Let’s start about 8 years ago when I was fresh out of high school clueless of who I was and what I wanted to do with my life. I was originally going to go to college for architectural designing but it wasn’t what I had envisioned and realized it was not for me. I have always had this hard passion of being my own boss and doing things my way. I was very good with line art and always enjoyed using my hands and creating things. In came window tinting where I quickly grew to love it. Being a car guy my whole life and being introduced to window tinting and vinyl wraps, I knew this was something I could easily pursue. I was working for a shop for a few years until Covid-19 hit resulting in all of us losing our jobs and not being able to return. I was almost lost and clueless of what to do and how to move forward. I knew this was my time to take things into my own hands and start my own business which has been a great success.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No where near a smooth road. I’ve had incredible highs but also incredible lows while running this business. When I first jumped into it I had no initial plan. I had my tools, my film, and my hands. A big struggle to overcome was putting myself out there and networking when I’ve always been an incredibly shy guy my entire life. After realizing I needed to put all of that aside and start talking to people and getting my name out there, it slowly started to accelerate. It was incredibly rough at the start where I was getting nearly no business at all. I knew my work was phenomenal as compared to others, so I knew giving up and going to work for another shop was not an option. I had something to prove. My craft.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a solo mobile automotive accessory business. I professionalize in many different aspects that vary from window tinting all the way to paint protection. I tackle many different projects daily, so the rush of everything is incredibly thrilling and keeps me guessing what my next project will be. Monday I can be tinting a beautiful classic car, Tuesday I can be applying paint protection film to a tractor, Wednesday I can be installing reflective film to a shopping mall. So it’s very broad. What sets me apart from other automotive accessory companies is the mobile aspect of it. When someone has a project in mind, they have to factor in which shop to take it to, will they have to wait the entire day for it to be completed, will they have a ride to go back to their daily routine. It can become a very stressful task because not only do I work on vehicles, I work on anything glass related. I do tractors as well which is definitely too difficult to bring to a shop considering most times, said tractor can be 20-50 miles and even more from the nearest shop. So that is why I offer mobile service. Potential client reaches out to me on a project they have in mind, and I offer to come out, it relieves so much stress on having whatever they want done, done.
How do you think about luck?
For this question, I’m going to choose bad luck. The reasoning for this is I have had a ton of ups & downs when it came to finding/figuring out what I truly wanted to do with my life, but there has definitely more bad luck. Time after time I would catch a groove of something I enjoyed doing but never could find a way to truly make a living out of it for a few reasons. I will use my first tint shop that I ever worked at about 7-8 years ago. I loved every minute of it and truly enjoyed waking up excited for work. Every year throughout the months of November-February is considered the “slow” season for automotive accessories. This played a role in reducing my hours and eventually “temporarily” being let go. Back to square one of classless and lost on what I can do. Finally after about 3-4 months without working there I was back ready and motivated to work on awesome vehicles. Fast forward about a year and Covid-19 hit. This resulted in all of us technicians being let go permanently. This had a huge impact on my financial health & most importantly my mental health. But I believe that round of bad luck truly made me a much stronger person and allowed me to open my eyes more and dig deeper on finally pursuing my lifelong dream of becoming a business owner. And it has all worked out. I guess in a way I am thankful for this “bad luck”
