Today we’d like to introduce you to Nate Nunemaker
Nate, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Farmer Nate’s Sauce started back in 2020 during the pandemic when everything was shut down. Work was slow, and I had always dreamt of growing my own food, so I began growing corn, cucumbers, and peppers. Little did I know, peppers grew in such abundance that I was left with boxes full of them. I made hot sauce as a way to preserve the peppers and gave it to friends and family. They really enjoyed it, and I was having a blast, so I saw an opportunity. It took nine months to get my FDA and other licensing, create a brand, and establish an LLC, and I officially launched in November 2021.
Since then, we have products in over 45 retail locations and are served in 9 restaurants.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every day brings a new struggle. Starting out, it was figuring out how to get FDA registered, then it was funding for the business, and then it was finding a commercial kitchen or a manufacturer to make our products. In business, there will be a new problem every single day. Some problems are bigger than others, but the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that there is always a solution to every problem. You just have to persevere and, at times, be creative.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Farmer Nate’s Sauce Co. creates flavorful and unique sauces, seasonings, and other condiments in small batches in Covington, KY. What sets us apart is our willingness to experiment with our recipes and embrace creativity. We also strive to maintain a highly personal brand. Word of mouth is our biggest form of marketing, and I believe that attending events and markets, sampling our products, meeting the local community, and sharing recipes and a love for food is what keeps our brand personal.
I am very proud of the image and brand we have created. We aim to be storytellers.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Probably fishing with my dad. He would always take me fishing, and he took it very seriously. Every time, he would get so focused on the fish that he lost track of me. Whenever he checked on me, I was always in the lake or on my way into the lake and he would get so mad. That was always very funny to me.
