Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Henderson
Hi Megan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story begins with a little girl who loved art. I grew up doodling at my craft table in my childhood home’s sunroom, finding joy in creating, and dreaming of big things. Fast forward to my mid-20s, life was anything but certain. I was newly married, with just $6 in my bank account, and unsure of where to begin my own dreams while working full-time. But I did know one thing: I wanted a life where creativity wasn’t just a passion but a purpose.
With nothing but faith and a Sharpie marker, I started small. My husband saw my dream and he saw my heart. After brainstorming some ideas, the next day, my husband took that last $6 in our bank account and purchased 6 coffee mugs from our local dollar store. He brought them home with a sweet love note, inspiring me to take action on my dreams. I lettered cute quotes and different words on coffee mugs, pouring my heart into each creation and selling them on social media. It wasn’t super glamorous, but it was mine. That small step quickly gained momentum, and soon, I found myself creating hand-lettered wedding signs, custom designs, and eventually exploring graphic design. What began as a simple way to make ends meet turned into something I couldn’t have imagined—Southern Scribble.
But the journey was far from smooth. I faced the self-doubt that so many entrepreneurs wrestle with. Could I really make this dream work? Was I worthy of success? Each obstacle pushed me to grow, and each failure became a stepping stone. Over time, I realized that Southern Scribble wasn’t just about creating beautiful designs; it was about empowering women to invest in themselves and their businesses.
Today, Southern Scribble has blossomed into a six-figure creative marketing agency that serves visionary women entrepreneurs. We specialize in custom brand strategy, website design, SEO, and LED neon signs, all with one goal: to help women radiate online.
What began as a one-woman show is now a larger endeavor. My husband joined Southern Scribble as the Director of Sales and Manufacturing for our signage division, ensuring every sign we produce radiates quality and excellence. We also brought on MacKenzie Morris, our Operations Specialist, who plays a critical role in helping us with email marketing, launches, and streamlining our processes. And beyond that, we’ve built a team of talented women designers who share our mission to help other women radiate online. Together, we are creating something we’re deeply proud of—a business rooted in faith, empowerment, and vibrant creativity.
What truly fuels me is the impact I see in my clients’ lives. I work with women who are ready to stand out as leaders in their industries. Women who are building their legacy, chasing their dreams, and making bold moves to elevate their brands. Helping them step into their full potential is the greatest reward.
Looking back, I see God’s fingerprints all over my story. From the 10-year-old me, gifted a book on doodling letters during a tough season, to the woman I am today, leading a business built on faith and perseverance. Every moment has led me here, and I’m eternally grateful for the journey. Southern Scribble is more than a business—it’s my heart. It’s a movement to uplift, inspire, and empower. And this is only the beginning.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road by any means, but every twist and turn has taught me something invaluable. Starting Southern Scribble felt like jumping off a cliff with nothing but faith to catch me. I launched the business with just $6 in my bank account, and in those early days, every decision felt like a risk. Balancing finances, learning how to run a business, and figuring out how to market myself was overwhelming, especially as someone with no formal business training.
One of the biggest struggles was overcoming imposter syndrome. I often doubted whether I was good enough or capable of building something meaningful. The comparison game was real—I constantly felt like I wasn’t doing enough or that others were further ahead. It took time to quiet those voices and realize that my unique approach and passion were what set me apart.
Another challenge was navigating rapid growth. As the business grew, so did the responsibilities. I was juggling everything—design, marketing, client communication, and even packaging LED signs—all while trying to be present for my family. Burnout became a very real obstacle. I had to learn how to set boundaries, prioritize what truly mattered, and trust others to help carry the load.
Building a team was another learning curve. I had to let go of the mindset that I needed to do everything myself and embrace the idea of collaboration. Bringing on my husband, MacKenzie Morris, and other talented women designers has been a game-changer, but it didn’t happen overnight. It took trial and error to find the right people and systems to support the business.
One of the more personal struggles I faced was balancing my role as a wife, mother, and business owner. There were moments when I felt like I was failing at all three. It took intentionality, prayer, and leaning on my faith to find peace in the chaos and trust that God was guiding me.
Despite these struggles, each challenge has strengthened me and Southern Scribble. I’ve learned that failure isn’t the end—it’s a stepping stone. Those tough moments have shaped the business into what it is today: a thriving agency that empowers other women to radiate online and build legacies of their own. Looking back, I wouldn’t trade the struggles for anything because they’ve made the journey that much more rewarding.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The COVID-19 crisis wasn’t just a challenge—it was the beginning of Southern Scribble’s journey. I officially launched the business on March 17, 2020, during a time of immense uncertainty. At that point, Southern Scribble focused heavily on hand-lettering projects like wedding signage and calligraphy invitations. However, as events and gatherings were canceled or postponed, that side of the business slowed down significantly.
While it was a challenging time, it also pushed me to adapt and explore new ways to serve clients. The slowdown gave me space to think creatively about the future of Southern Scribble and how I could expand beyond events to help women entrepreneurs establish their brands online. I began leaning into digital branding projects, which set the foundation for what Southern Scribble would eventually become.
The pandemic taught me the importance of resilience, flexibility, and listening to the needs of my clients. It reinforced that challenges often lead to growth and that sometimes a shift in focus can open new doors. Starting this business during such a pivotal moment in history has become a foundational part of our story, one that reminds me to embrace change and lean into opportunities, even during the most uncertain times.
