Today we’d like to introduce you to Mai-kee Tsang
Hi Mai-kee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It was my third year in university, and as well as studying for my final exams to achieve my Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology – I was simultaneously studying for my certification to become a Health & Wellness Coach.
With both my degree and certification in hand, I was literally at a crossroads after graduation.
I decided by listening to my gut… which essentially screamed “Mai-kee, this is NOT for you. Not this way…” after the welcoming ceremony on my first day of university.
So for me? The choice was simple – go after the unconventional and unpaved route that had a world of wonder to explore.
Of course, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. It took a good few years of part-timing as a barista to pay the bills, studying how to *actually* run a business with zero experience in the evenings, and volunteering on the weekends at business events in London.
But after meeting the right people who took a chance on me and gaining first-hand experience working with real business owners – it was 1st June 2018 when I finally became a *full time* business owner.
Because of my work ethic, referrals came seamlessly out of the gate thanks to the network I had built. Then, I *really* made my mark amongst my community, peers and mentors after becoming known as the person who pitched to 101 podcasters in 30 days (and achieved a 33% booking rate)!
Suddenly, I became the go-to expert for Podcast Guesting. Over time, my work has expanded into the Sustainable Visibility® movement to find new ways to support human-first business owners & marginalised folks to share their work with the world – without *needing* to hire external agencies.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a business owner is one of the biggest and deepest journeys of self-reflection you could ever do for yourself.
It will be your mirror and will show how you handle fear, stress, success, and everything in-between.
But I believe one of the most important things is to remember that you don’t know what you don’t know, and only when you know can you make the conscious choice to either do better or feign ignorance.
As well as a business owner, I’m still human – which is precisely why I call my niche “human-first”.
This encompasses the folks who see their clients/community as humans, not just numbers, and also speaks to the people who *do* need to factor their humanity into the way they run their businesses.
It’s truly about doing what you can with what you have.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I help human-first business owners get heard and hired for their work in the world.
How? By booking themselves as a guest expert on podcasts, and being *sustainably* visible to expand their reach on multiple platforms.
I founded the Sustainable Visibility® movement back in 2020, and this has been all about shifting the narrative to help more marginalised folks show up and be seen – without compromising their safety, values or bottom line in the process.
I help folks in 2 key ways:
1) Through my signature on-demand course: The Ultimate Podcast Guesting Course (The A-Z course to book yourself on podcasts without needing a PR agency or sending a tonne of pitches)
2) With my 1:1 service where I create your “Versatile Visibility” resource for your brand. This is where I interview you about your story and expertise, and then I create your unique resource which consists of your signature speaker topics, story angles, and content ideas for email marketing and social media posting.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
(I’m not quite sure how to answer this question? The only thing I would have to say about this is the following:
COVID-19 as a business owner was quite the time for deep introspection, and also witnessing others in their own journeys as well.
The legal requirements to keep at a distance in-person meant that the online possibilities of connecting with others skyrocketed.)
Pricing:
- The Ultimate Podcast Guesting Course ($555 USD) <-- This pricing applies from July 31st! Before then, it will be $333
- My 1:1 Signature Service to Create Your Versatile Visibility Strategy Doc is $2500 (USD)
