Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Oduh
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always known I wanted to be a hairstylist/cosmetologist. From a very young age it was the career I truly desired.
I grew up in a Nigerian (Igbo) household so although I wanted to go straight to cosmetology school after high school, my parents insisted that I first get my undergraduate degree.
I attended and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with BA in Business Administration. I then went on to cosmetology school and received my cosmetology license and then immediately went on to obtain my cosmetology instructor’s license.
By the grace of God, I am now the owner of my salon: Strand Savvy Studios PLLC.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Along the way there were some challenges. I dealt with self doubt as well as questioning whether or not to choose a different career path.
This gift that God has blessed me with is not something I take for granted, so even when those challenges arose I knew I had to keep pushing to continue on the path that I’m on today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Strand Savvy Studios PLLC focuses on beauty and beauty related products. I specialize in braid styles, makeup, and healthy hair education.
I am known for my unique style and color combinations as well as providing low tension styles that last.
I provide every client with a personalized experience tailored to their wants/hair care needs and lifestyle.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is to keep God at the center of everything. No matter the situation (good or bad) I give all glory to God for keeping me thus far and continuing to keep me. There is a peace in knowing who I am and whose I am. That is what helps to keep me grounded and focused.
